Fantasy Football Week 5 Streamers: QB, TE and Team Defense
Before getting into Week 5’s quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers, let’s see how Week 4’s streamers did (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).
Quarterback: C.J. Stroud-21.84 points
Tight End: Luke Musgrave-0.6 points (left injured)
Team Defense: Denver Broncos-13 points
Week 5 is the start of bye weeks for this year, with the Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers idle. With that in mind, here are the top quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy football streamers for Week 5.
Quarterback: Sam Howell, Washington Commanders vs. Chicago Bears (Thursday night)
Howell rebounded from an ugly showing in Week 3, going 29-for-41 for 290 yards with one touchdown, no interceptions and 40 rushing yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. He has topped 17 fantasy points (ESPN scoring) in three of four games this season. Sacks have been a thing (14 taken over the last two games), but that’s not nearly enough to diminish his prospects for Week 5.
The Chicago Bears are allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season. They are one of two teams who have allowed double-digit touchdown passes through four weeks, and both of their interceptions came in one game off a backup quarterback (Blaine Gabbert in Week 3). They also have just two sacks this season.
Howell has taken full advantage of good matchups this season. Another is on the docket this week, and rooted in wide availability he’s easily the top streaming quarterback for me in Week 5.

Others To Consider: C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans at Atlanta Falcons, Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles (check injury status); Josh Dobbs, Arizona Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Bengals; Zach Wilson, New York Jets at Denver Broncos; Jimmy Garoppolo, Las Vegas Raiders vs. Green Bay Packers (Monday night, check injury status); Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts
Tight End: Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers (Sunday night)
Ferguson had seven receptions (on seven targets) for 77 yards (enough 7’s for you?) against the New England Patriots in Week 4. He has 12 catches on 14 targets over the last two games, and he has at least seven targets or a touchdown in all four games this season.
In Week 5 Ferguson will face the San Francisco 49ers, who are top-10 in the league in fantasy points allowed to tight ends so far this season. But they have allowed at least seven targets to an opposing tight end in three straight games, and they allowed a touchdown to the position in Week 1. If Zach Ertz hadn’t uncharacteristically dropped an easy touchdown catch in Week 4, the narrative on the 49ers vs. tight ends would be a little different.

In the face of a strong 49ers’ pass rush, Ferguson is lined up to be a prominent target for Dak Prescott on Sunday night along the lines we’ve already seen. Another pretty easy top streamer here.

Others To Consider: Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders (Thursday night, check availability); Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Bengals; Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders vs. Chicago Bears (Thursday night); Luke Musgrave, Green Bay Packers at Las Vegas Raiders (Monday night, check injury status); Tyler Conklin, New York Jets at Denver Broncos; Hayden Hurst, Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions
Team Defense: Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers
Over their last two games, the Lions have 12 sacks with three total takeaways. They’ve allowed 20 or less points in three of four games this season, and Week 5 is lined up as a very good matchup.
In Bryce Young‘s three starts this season, the Carolina Panthers have scored 10, 17 and seven offensive points. He has taken 11 sacks (3.6 per game), and he’s averaging less than 168 passing yards per game.
The Panthers could try to use the ground game to help Young in what’s sure to be a tough road environment on Sunday. But the Lions have the league’s No. 1 run defense through four weeks, so that looks like a non-starter.
A home game against an overmatched rookie quarterback is a prime spot for what’s been a good Lions’ defense to have a big fantasy outing. Don’t overthink it if you need a team defense streamer for Week 5.
