Fantasy Football Week 5 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before unveiling Week 5’s streamers, let’s look at Week 4’s results (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Marcus Mariota-4.86 points
Tight End: Tyler Conklin-6.7 points
Team Defense: Philadelphia Eagles
15 points

Here are Week 5’s quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy football streamers.

Quarterback: Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints

Smith three for 320 yards and two touchdowns, along with 49 rushing yards and another score, in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions. The great matchup is worth noting there, but Smith has topped 300 passing yards with two touchdowns in back-to-back games and he has multiple passing touchdowns in three of four games this season. He’s officially a thing.

In Week 5 Smith gets a tough matchup against the New Orleans Saints, who are allowing the eighth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks this season (13.46 per game, Yahoo! scoring). But with two very good wide receivers (DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett) at his disposal, and a group of tight ends he’s using, Smith has enough weapons to have some success and possibly account for multiple scores.

The quarterback streaming options this week severely lack upside. Smith is playing well, and I can’t ignore him anymore even in a tough matchup.

Others To Consider: Jared Goff, Detroit Lions at New England Patriots, Teddy Bridgewater, Miami Dolphins at New York Jets; Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers at Carolina Panthers; Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans at Washington Commanders; Jameis Winston/Andy Dalton, New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks (check Winston’s status); Zach Wilson, New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins; Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills

Tight End: Hayden Hurst, Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens (Sunday Night)

Hurst caught three of his four targets in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins, for 27 yards. But he scored a touchdown, his first as a Bengal, and he has scored or had five catches in three of four games this season. He’ll never be a top target for Joe Burrow, with Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd around, but finding a streaming tight end is often about avoiding a zero in the box score.

The Baltimore Ravens are only in the middle of the pack against tight ends through four weeks. But they’ve been so bad against the pass overall (most fantasy points allowed to wide receivers), there’s room for Hurst to do something on Sunday night.

The prospect of a handful of catches and a coin-flip chance at a touchdown is the makings of a tight end streamer. The Bengals should not have much trouble moving the ball on the Ravens, and even a small sliver of that pie makes Hurst my top tight end streamer for Week 5.

Others to Consider: Tyler Conklin, New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins, Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders vs. Tennessee Titans; Mo Alie-Cox, Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos (Thursday Night); Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks at New Orleans Saints; Robert Tonyan, Green Bay Packers vs. New York Giants (London); Irv Smith, Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears; Hunter Henry, New England Patriots vs. Detroit Lions

Team Defense: Miami Dolphins at New York Jets

The Dolphins’ defense has been up-and-down so far, going 18, -4, 9 and 1 in fantasy points in four games (Yahoo! scoring). Their last three games have been against the quality offenses of the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, though they did hold Buffalo to 17 points and sack Josh Allen four times in Week 3. In any case, Week 4 looks like an up week.

The New York Jets welcome Zach Wilson back under center in Week 4. But he threw two interceptions, and they are averaging less than 20 points per game this season. Wilson’s mobility surely helped last week, but the Jets’ offensive line has been hampered by injuries and they allowed multiple sacks in each of their first three games (nine total).

Based on deeper metrics (pressure rate, etc.), Miami is not getting after the passer anywhere near like they did last year so far. But this looks like a get-right week in that regard, and if they get it done the Jets’ don’t seem equipped to light up the scoreboard on them.
