Fantasy Football Week 9 Streamers: QB, TE and Team Defense

Before getting into Week 9’s fantasy football streamers at quarterback, tight end and team defense, let’s see what Week 8’s streamers did (Yahoo! scoring, 0.5-point PPR).

Quarterback: Daniel Jones-9.04 points
Tight End: Irv Smith-4.8 points
Team Defense: Indianapolis Colts
5 points

Week 9 is a heavy bye week, with six teams idle (Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers).

Here are your streamers for Week 9.

Quarterback: Justin Fields, Chicago Bears vs. Miami Dolphins

Fields completed 17 of 23 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8, along with 60 rushing yards and another score on eight attempts. He still isn’t throwing much, but he has been better lately (at least 61 percent completion rate in three of the last four). He has at least 60 rushing yards in three straight games, with a touchdown on the ground in each of the last two.

In Week 9 Fields gets the Miami Dolphins, who are allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to quarterbacks (20.2 per game; Yahoo! scoring). That is still somewhat skewed by Lamar Jackson‘s huge Week 2. But four other quarterbacks have posted at least 16.5 fantasy points against them this season, and pnly one of those non-Jackson signal callers (Josh Allen) has had more than five rushing attempts. Five rushing attempts might be a good half for Fields.

Fields has been a fantasy QB1 in recent weeks. He’s set to land there again this week, as a streamer in a very nice matchup.

Others To Consider: Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons vs. Los Angeles Chargers; Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Las Vegas Raiders (check availability); Taylor Heinicke, Washington Commanders vs. Minnesota Vikings; Andy Dalton, New Orleans Saints vs. Baltimore Ravens (Monday night); Jared Goff, Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers;

Tight End: Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Over in London against the Denver Broncos in Week 8, Engram had four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. He has at least six targets in four straight games, with at least 55 yards and double-digit PPR points in three of them.

Week 9 brings a very favorable matchup for Engram. The Las Vegas Raiders are allowing the third-most fatnasy points to tight ends this season (Yahoo!-scoring, 0.5-point PPR). A closer looks reveals that has been driven by allowing six touchdowns to the position (second-most in the league), and Travis Kelce scored four times in Week 5. But five tight ends have topped 50 yards and/or scored against the Raiders, including such luminaries as Geoff Swaim and Jordan Akins.

Engram has been too involved and too productive lately to be ignored among tight ends. He’s an easy choice as the top tight end streamer for Week 9.

Others To Consider: Noah Fant, Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals; Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints vs. Baltimore Ravens (Monday night); Tyler Conklin, New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills; Isaiah Likely, Baltimore Ravens at New Orleans Saints (Monday night, check status of Mark Andrews);

Team Defense: Minnesota Vikings at Washington Commanders

The Vikings allowed 26 points to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, but they also sacked Kyler Murray four times and had three takeaways. They have three takeaways in each of their last two games, and multiple sacks in each of their last four.

In Week 9 Minnesota hits the road to take on the Washington Commanders. Their offense has been a bit better since Taylor Heinicke took over for the injured Carson Wentz, but even then they’ve only averaged 20 points per game over Heinicke’s two starts. Heinicke has thrown an interception in each game, and take a total of three sacks.

The Indianapolis Colts didn’t totally work out as my defense streamer against the Commanders last week. But in a light week for good options, I’m going back to the well with the Vikings in Week 9.
