Five Sleepers for Week 5
1: Philadelphia Eagles RB Corey Clement
After surprisingly going undrafted after a great Senior year at Wisconsin, Clement has been given a few opportunities behind Starter RB LeGarrette Blount to carry the football in the absence of injured RB Darren Sproles and has made the most of his opportunity. Last week against the Giants he ran for 22 yards on 6 carries and a TD. This week against the Chargers Clement ran for 30 yards on 10 carries and had a key first down to help run the clock out to help Philadelphia pull out a close road win. He is gaining Head Coach Doug Pederson‘s trust and more importantly is beginning to gain confidence in himself. Starting RB LeGarrette Blount isn’t going anywhere but look for RB Corey Clement to earn some more carries against the Cardinals reeling defense in this weeks game. Look for Clement to run for over 90 yards and a TD in this ballgame.
2: Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Desean Jackson
WR Desean Jackson scored his first TD of the season in week 4 against the Giants. Jackson only has 9 catches for 143 yards so far this season. I don’t expect that to continue. Look for Jackson to go off and have around 10 catches for over 135 yards. He will have the first ever 2 TD catch game of his career against a struggling Patriots defense on Thursday Night Football. Fun fact: While WR Desean Jackson has scored 3 TDs in a game before in his career via a TD catch, punt return TD, and rushing TD this would be his first game catching more than one TD pass in a game if my prediction is correct.
3. Baltimore Ravens Defense
The Ravens Defense has looked terrible in weeks 3 and 4 after only allowing 10 points in the first two weeks of the season. The good news is that the Ravens are playing a banged up Raiders offense that has looked equally as bad in weeks 3 and 5 after starting hot to begin the season. I don’t think this year’s Oakland Raiders team has what it takes to figure things out by week 5. Bold prediction: Look for the Ravens to get things back on track defensively and hold the struggling Raiders to 10 points in this week 5 matchup.
4: Oakland Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch
While as stated I don’t expect the Raiders to score more than 10 points in week 5, I do think that Lynch gets back on track. He is simply far too talented of a player to be limited to under 100 yards for 3 weeks in a row. Look for Lynch to run for around 105 yards and to score the Raiders lone TD in this ballgame.
5: New York Jets QB Josh McCown
If you were to tell me that the Jets were going to start the season 2-2 with a darn good chance of getting to 3-2 after what should be an easy week 5 win against the worst team in the NFL the Cleveland Browns and that the New York Giants were going to start the season 0-4 with a very good chance of being 0-5 after they play a Chargers team that is better than their record at the end of week 5 I wouldn’t have believed you. I don’t think any NFL fan would have but that is very likely the case. The Giants were favored to win the NFC East, and every writer (myself included) had accused the Jets of tanking. Strangely enough, the Jets are competitive this year and have benefited from steady QB play from Journeyman Josh McCown. Look for McCown to continue playing for his football life as he throws for close to 350 yards and 2 to 3 TDs against the Browns in a big blowout win for the Jets. I’m admittedly ashamed that I wrote this team off before the season even began.
