Four Down Territory: NFL Week 11

First Down

Some really interesting news came out of Cleveland Sunday morning.

If interviewed, Rice would be the first woman to ever interview for a head coaching job in the NFL. Though being from Alabama she is a huge Cleveland Browns fan.

Both Rice and Brown denied the report bu the backlash received was uninformed and ignorant.

What twitter clown fail to realize is that Condelezza knows more about football than they realize.

Rice was an inaugural member of the College Football Playoff selection committee. She held that position from 2013 to 2016. Currently she is a member of a commission that recently recommended major changes to college basketball; the main suggestion being getting rid of the one-and-done rule. Which is smart because that rule is stupid.

The NFL has been opening the door for women to gain experience in both front office and on the field opportunities. Kelsey Martinez is on the Raiders’ strength staff, Katie Sowers is an office assistant for the 49ers, and Kathryn Smith is a quality control assistant for the Bills.

As great as this is, and it is great that women are getting their foot in the door, there’s still a dark cloud hanging over the NFL’s head. That, my friends, is their inability to handle domestic violence. Their track record isn’t even remotely impressive.

There’s the infamous Ray Rice incident.

Josh Brown admitted to abusing his wife many times.

Joe Mixon punched a woman so hard it broke four bones in her face.

Take some time to read the details to the Greg Hardy case. It’s one of the most gruesome stories you’ll ever read.

Ray McDonald’s ex-fiancee gave the details about the abuse she suffered.

That’s just a small sample of the NFL bumbling its way through a very important issue.

Now some of you are screaming about false allegations and how women use this as a money grab. Two things about those statements.

  1. The number of false reports vary between two and ten percent.
  2. Why would a woman put herself in the midst of scrutiny that’s built off a lie? It doesn’t make sense.

The NFL will use this as a sign that times are changing but if they truly want to change they’ll start treating women as people and not PR tokens.

Second Down

Schefter was on a roll Sunday with the breaking news.

This wasn’t pulled out of thin air, Ramsey tweeted this last week.

The third year corner from FSU has become one of, if not the best, corner in the league. On the surface it would be foolish for Jacksonville to trade a talent like Jalen, especially since they have him for two more years under his rookie contract.

Yes, he’s cocky and says brash things…a lot. He talked trash about Big Ben this offseason only to watch him lead a game winning drive on Sunday to send his Jaguars to 3-7. The other side of that coin though is the leader of a defense that would’ve represented the AFC in the Super Bowl if Doug Marrone didn’t clam up in the second half of in the title game.

That’s what you get with a guy like Ramsey. Just appreciate his greatness and move on.

Third Down

Sunday the Saints throttled the Eagles 48-7. One of the main storylines from that game is Sean Payton going for it on 4th and 7 when the game was clearly out of reach.

A lot of fans called this move classless and complained that the Saints were running up the score. As an Eagles fan I have no problem with this. If you don’t want a team to score then stop them from scoring. Is it The Saints fault that the Eagles haven’t been able to defend the wheel route all year? If you see a weakness then you pounce, no matter the score.

Now if you want to call Payton classless because, you know, he oversaw a bounty system then we can talk.

Fourth Down

The Rams and Chiefs combined for 105 points and over 1,000 yards of offense. Both teams scored over 50 and the NFL has got to find a way to make this the Super Bowl. Goff threw four touchdowns and zero interceptions while Mahomes threw six touchdowns and three picks.

Sidebar: remember Goff’s rookie year and how lost he looked? It’s amazing what a good coach can do for a quarterback. Jeff Fischer got some explaining to do. I’m kidding, he’s been mediocre since the turn of the century.

Also, Tyreek Hill is the most explosive weapon in the league and there’s isn’t a close second.

The Rams won the game but it’s the Chiefs who should be happy. If a rematch were to happen in the Super Bowl the odds of the Rams’ defense scoring two touchdowns are slim.

Speaking of defense HOW MUCH OF A BEAST IS AARON DONALD?!

Donald and Mack have to settle the Defensive Player of the Year debate with an arm wrestling competition.

Extra Points

FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING ON EARTH STOP USING LAMAR JACKSON AS A RUNNING BACK. There is no excuse for him to carry the ball 27 times. Look no further than the man backing you up, Lamar. This is what happens when a coaching staff runs you into the ground.

Everything is breaking (no pun intended) for Dallas to win the NFC East.

Jameis is now the starter again in Tampa Bay, The ultimate proof they’re tanking which is the right move.

Finally, to end the debate: sweet potato pie>>>>>pumpkin pie.
