Four Down Territory: NFL Week 3

First Down

So…let’s talk about AB.

The former Steeler, Raider, and Patriot was released after the receiver sent threatening text messages to one of his accusers. The message had a picture of her children. The kicker? HE PUT HIS LAWYER ON THE TEXT THREAD.

A few things:

  • Some have blamed AB’s destructive behavior on CTE; the neurodegenerative disease that occurs after repeated brain trauma. That’s a lazy take. He’s just a dumbass. It doesn’t go much deeper than that.
  • Yes, he’s innocent until proven guilty but he’s not demonstrating the behavior of an innocent man. It’s not surprising, though. Abusers traditionally believe they can’t be touched.
  • He needs to surround himself with better people because he’s obviously in need of help. Let this be a life lesson kids; surround yourself with people that hold you accountable. Also, don’t sexually assault people; that’s big, too.

Now back to his former employer: the Patriots and Bill Belichick in particular. Sunday before the game Dana Jacobson snagged Bill for an interview. Like any person with a brain she asked him about Antonio being cut and what the final straw was. Bill gave his typical answer but it’s his action after the interview that’s catching everyone’s eye.

It’s time to have a conversation about Bill and the media. You #fakenews nerds love the fact that he stiffs the media because God forbid they ask him questions he doesn’t like but here’s the thing.

Come in a little closer; this is important.

IT’S PART OF HIS ******* JOB TO TALK TO THE MEDIA.

Go figure, right?

Let’s try this; go to work tomorrow and tell your boss you’re not going to do a part of the job you don’t like and see what happens. Get back to me with the result.

What did he think she was going to talk about? The Jets? No, you signed a man that was accused of sexual assault. Before those allegations came to the public that same player acted in a way that was so vile the RAIDERS said enough and got rid of him. And he threatened his accuser in a text thread that included his lawyer.

Bill won’t be punished. This will blow over and he’ll keep behaving like an ass whenever someone presses him.

That’s the Patriot way.

Second Down

While we’re having these conversations it’s time to talk about the Eagles. They’re 1-2 after a brutal loss to the Lions on Sunday.

It’s easy to see that both sides of the ball are struggling. The offense can’t catch or hold on to the ball and the defense can’t generate pressure without the blitz. The secondary is getting torched and they’re riddled with injuries.

With all those factors going against them Carson Wentz put his team in a position to win. Against the Falcons Wentz threw the game winning touchdown to Nelson Agholor who was streaking down the sideline.

Dropped.

Sunday Wentz threw a 50/50 ball to rookie JJ Arcega-Whiteside near the endzone and the end of the game.

Dropped.

Those two dropped balls are the difference between 3-0 and 1-2. Those two dropped balls could be the difference between a playoff spot and watching games in January. It can make or break an entire season.

What’s next for the birds? A Thursday night game against the Packers in Lambeau. I forgot to mention; a 3-0 Packers team that has the best QB in the game and a legit defense.

The Eagles season is far from over but climbing out of a 1-3 hole is realllllyyyyy hard. The Cowboys are rolling and catching up to them will be toughest challenge this team will face.

We’ll find out soon what the Eagles are made of.

Side bar: shoutout to the hero that saved babies and still took time to take a shot at Nelson. The most Philly thing to ever happen if you ask me.

Also, shoutout to Nelson for being a class act and offering this guy tickets to the next home game.

Third Down

After watching the Washington racial slurs stink up the joint on MNF I’ve decided to make a list of teams that should not get anywhere near a primetime game unless the contingency in parentheses comes to pass.

  • Arizona (A sendoff for Larry Fitzgerald)
  • Buffalo (A single camera in the parking lot during the tailgate)
  • Cincinnati (A.J. Green mic’d up realizing he gave his prime to Andy Dalton)
  • Cleveland (A single camera on Myles Garrett demolishing left tackles)
  • Denver (*see Cleveland but replace with Von Miller)
  • Detroit (A panel of analyst roasting Matt Patricia for keeping a pencil on his ear like a 2nd grader)
  • Indianapolis (Andrew Luck and Jacoby Brissett complimenting each other until one gives up and leaves the game forever)
  • Jacksonville (Jalen Ramsey talking smack to Tom Coughlin from the sideline for four quarters)
  • Miami (They embrace the tank and Brian Flores admits he loves Tua more than Josh Rosen in a bachelor style ceremony)
  • BOTH New York Teams (duplicate Saquon 44 times and have them play against each other)
  • Oakland (Just send HBO back for Hard Knocks filming)
  • Tampa Bay (Mike Evans questioning why he didn’t stay at aTm one more year to avoid being a Buccaneer)
  • Tennessee (Mariota trying to be nice to everyone knowing he’s the reason they won’t win)
  • Washington (A three hour interview of Dan Snyder explaining why Redskins is not a slur)

Extra Points

A hobbled Saqoun still has more agility than Leonard Fournette.

Imagine talking yourself into trading Khalil Mack because he “wanted too much money.”

Congrats; you’re Jon Gruden.

Richard Sherman is giving a voice to those of us who feel voiceless.

Oh yeah, Colin Kaepernick is being blackballed for protesting police brutality and racial inequality in this country.
