Hidden Dynasty Assets: RB Edition (Fantasy Football)

Alright, with my fourth installment of hidden dynasty assets we look at the running back group. Running backs have been pushed back to stardom in the last couple of seasons almost eliminating the zero RB draft strategy.

1. Tevin Coleman

Yes, Tevin Coleman is not the starting running back on his own team, but he continues to produce RB2 fantasy numbers. That is not why he makes this list though. At the end of 2018, Tevin Coleman becomes an unrestricted free agent. As long as there is even a chance that Tevin Coleman starts, his value is going to sky rocket from RB26 to a top 15 back. If for some reason you can’t see this being possible look no further than Jerick McKinnon. Ultimately the goal in dynasty is to capitalize on dynasty, if you have Tevin Coleman hold him. He’s worth the investment and as long as everything goes according to plan you will have made a huge gain in value.

2. Isaiah Crowell

Isaiah Crowell is currently coming off the board as RB 41. Looking at his current 2018 projections Crowell looks more like a flex play with a projected 720 yards and 4 scores. While this is all a guessing game, I can easily see Crowell breaking 800 yards and find the end zone 8 times. The only thing in Crowell’s way is that he plays for a poor team. Sure, Bilal Powell will steal a few snaps but the Jets are going to lean on Isaiah and try and make the transition into the NFL as easy as possible for Sam Darnold. If Isaiah Crowell can prove himself as viable in 2018 he will stick around at this flex to RB2 level for at least another 2 seasons. With no risk involved in picking up the 41st RB coming off the board, take that chance and you should be satisfied.

3. Jordan Wilkins

While no one is excited about the Colts backfield, someone has to fill the role of starting running back. Jordan Wilkins is the most well-rounded back in Indianapolis and will have a chance to run with the job as Marlon Mack deals with some injury issues throughout pre-season.Wilkins is the 50th RB coming off the board in drafts right now, so again this is a pick that serves little risk. If he happens to win the job, he automatically will jump up inside the top 40. Along with winning the job would come the opportunity to sell him high to a RB needy team. While he isn’t going to be a bell cow, he will serve a role on many teams throughout his career as long as he can show he is a quality runner and pass catcher. Take him now while his ADP has him going in round 12 or later.

4. Chase Edmonds

Climbing even deeper down the running back rabbit hole, we have rookie running back Chase Edmonds. Chase is stuck behind bell cow running back David Johnson which is unfortunate because I believe this guy has talent. If Arizona is worried about trying to keep DJ healthy expect to see Edmonds pick up some snaps. Edmonds is a great handcuff for any David Johnson owners out there which makes him worth a roster spot for some. He is also a great pass catcher which may allow him to find the field in some different sets. While there is no way Chase Edmonds is going to come in and take this job, David Johnson plays a ton which leads to a high risk of injury. If David Johnson does go down again, he may be a top 20 RB this season but his value rides on the shoulders of David Johnson.
