A warrior faces a first lady Saturday for Welterweight supremacy
Former WBC Middleweight champion Kali Reis faces undisputed, undefeated Welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus in HBO’s first-ever televised women’s bout Saturday at Carson, California’s StubHub Center.
Reis (13-6-1, 4 KOs) is moving down two weight divisions for the opportunity to break the current streak of 22 consecutive title defenses held by Braekhus (32-0, 9 KOs). Check out the Rhode Island native’s interview on the Pay Me No Mind podcast where she talks about her training camp, addressing criticism of whether she is deserving of this opportunity, a hint of her game plan Saturday night and much more.
In an attempt to provide listeners with an idea of what to expect from Braekhus, undefeated WBC International Super Featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner (6-0, 4 KOs) also appeared on PMNM to share her insight on Braekhus. Baumgardner spent time in Breakhus’ training camp back in October before the champion’s rematch with Mikaela Lauren.
Before weighing in on Braekhus, Baumgardner talked through her exciting 6-round split decision victory over Kirstie Simmons last Saturday night in the only women’s bout on Real Deal Promotions’ WBC Jose Sulaiman World Invitational card.
Braekhus vs. Reis precedes HBO Championship Boxing’s main event Gennady Golovkin vs. Vanes Martirosyan this Saturday, with the telecast airing at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
