Kevin Durant could be signing for the Golden State Warriors this summer…
As I scroll over my favorite basketball sports sites, reading how Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets is the next big protégé from Europe (btw, I am going to write a special article on him), and how the Suns fired coach Hornacek, I started to notice more and more articles headlining the Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant. At first, I didn’t think about it too much, but as I was reading some of those articles, I decided to write my own opinion about the idea that KD might be leaving the OKC soon.
The main actor in this story (Kevin Durant) has become the center of attention, considering that he is going to become a free agent this summer. Now, many articles and many reporters are linking him to several teams such as the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks. The last team, especially seems as an appealing destination, considering the fact that KD might be teaming up with another superstar Carmelo Anthony, and a potential future superstar Kristaps Porzingis. What a trio that would be. I am sure that MSG and the BIG APPLE would love that.
When it comes to the Rockets and the Wizards, I just don’t see this happening.
Besides these three teams, one team has been specifically underlined as the new destination for KD. If sources are true, KD is seriously considering the move from OKC (37-13) to the Golden State Warriors (44-4). In a desperate pursue for a championship ring, Kevin Durant who is averaging 27.2 pts and 8.2 rebs per game this season, has admitted that he is thinking more and more about the possibility of playing for another championship contender team.
If a couple of other things line up in order, we could very soon witness the making of the greatestStephen Curry Draymond Green and Klay Thompson” width=”213″ height=”300″ /> shooting and offensive team in the history of the NBA with Curry, Thompson, and Durant in the starting lineup. Seriously, just the thought of these three playing together, adding Green into the mix, makes me wonder if the Warriors are creating a new DFS roster, and who is next on their wish list.
Considering the fact that the cap space is going to increase in the next season, and that the Warriors would consider listing Harrison Barnes as a free agent, and possibly trading Bogut and Iguodala, The Warriors would have more than enough money to bring KD on board.
Looking at the Warriors season so far, and considering the fact that they are on a path to break the Bulls 72-10 record from the 1995-1996 season, and possibly winning another NBA title, I can’t help but question myself if breaking a back-to-back championship team is worth bringing KD on board.
On the other side, I don’t doubt the love that KD has for OKC. We witness the mutual love between KD and OKC on a daily basis, but we simply need to understand that Durant is in his prime and in order to be considered as one of the greatest, he needs to get that championship ring. Following the scenario of his good friend, Lebron James, who left his beloved Akron and the Cleveland Cavs for the Miami Heat, just to get 2 rings alongside Wade and Bosh, and then to return again to his hometown, Durant might just do the same.
All in all, we are looking forward to this upcoming summer and the possibility that some of the biggest NBA superstars might team up and create one of the most dangerous offensive lineups in the NBA history. We shall see if Santa Claus is going to bring an early Christmas present for the city of Oakland and the Golden State Warriors organization this summer.
