NBA DFS DraftKings Lineup Advice 7/30/2020 (Updated)

DFS NBA DraftKings Lineup Advice 7/30/2020 Updated 7/29

NBA is back! At least as of Wednesday the 22nd when I wrote this column, who knows if it will actually start, but we can hope. The first slate is only a two-game slate, and that makes it really hard to make good lineups. However, I’m starved for some DFS, so I decided to do a column anyway. But before we get to the column, I have one thing to plug:

The GF2 Grinder’s Championship

What is it?

  1. A DFS Charity Contest
  2. An NFL Week 1 tournament (main slate)
  3. Free to enter
  4. Donations encouraged
  5. Championship Belt goes to the winner (pictured below)

Guards

NBA, DFS, DraftKings, 7/30/2020

NBA DFS Legend

Nothing But NetMy top plays of the night at his position.
DunkA Dunk is a second or third tier player with the highest upside.
Half-Court ShotOtherwise known as a “punt play.” A Low-priced, high-upside player.
Blocked Shot A player I’ll be avoiding. Otherwise known as “Fading.”

Nothing But Net | Jrue Holiday (NO) $8,600 vs. UTA

Before the “break” Holiday was balling. He scored over 60 DraftKings points over his last four games, and if the Pelicans have any shot of catching the Grizzlies for that eighth-spot, Holiday is going to need to carry this young team on his back — especially if Zion Williamson is forced to miss games due to quarantine.

Dunk | Lonzo Ball (NO) $7,400 vs. UTA

Defensively the Jazz struggle against the point guard position, and Ball is one of those players that doesn’t need to score points to be valuable. With that said, he was averaging over 20 NBA points over the last four games before the break, which included two games with over 50 DK points.

Half-Court Shot | Reggie Jackson (LAC) $4,600 @ LAL

Patrick Beverly had to leave the bubble on July 20th and it is very unlikely he will be cleared to play if and when he returns. That will leave 27 minutes on the table, most of which should go to Jackson, who went into the break averaging only 18.5 minutes per game over his last seven games — down from his 24 mpg on the season. Update: Beverly may be back in time, but now it looks like Lou Williams will miss, so I’m still on the Reggie Jackson train.

Blocked Shot | Donovan Mitchell (UTA) $7,000 @ NO

Mitchell was way too inconsistent pre-break to be trusted on a two-game slate. No one is truly “off-the-table” on a slate this small, but he isn’t someone I’m going to have a lot of exposure too.

Nothing But Net | LeBron James (LAL) $10,700 vs. LAC

On a two-game slate, you can’t fade the best player. And yes, he is better in this situation than Anthony Davis because you can never trust AD to start and finish a game.

Dunk | Brandon Ingram (NO) $8,300 vs. UTA

Without Zion, B.I. is going to have to step it up, and judging by how he has played this season, I expect him to do just that. The Jazz are a tough matchup for him, but at $8,300, I think he can score enough DK points to make it worth the risk.

Half-Court Shot | Kyle Kuzma (LAL) $4,500 @ LAC

Looking at the “cheap” options on the slate, Kuzma has the most upside. The Lakers are going to need a third option heading into the playoffs, and Kuzma is there best option to be the Chris Bosh/Kevin Love option for the Lakers.

Blocked Shot | Zion Williamson (NO) $7,500 vs. UTA

It is still early as write this, but there is a good chance he doesn’t play in at least the first game of the restart. It’s a huge blow to the Pelicans and their playoff chances. If he does come back and get cleared to play, I will have him in my lineups. Update: He is now listed as a game-time decision. I don’t think there is any way he misses this game. Get him in your lineups.

Centers

Nothing But Net | Rudy Gobert (UTA) $7,100 @ NO

Patient zero. The first player to officially be confirmed positive for Covid-19. His price at $7,100 gives you a ton of flexibility at other positions, and he is the best of the group of players listed solely as center without dual-eligibility.

Dunk | Anthony Davis (LAL) $10,000 vs. LAC

It’s hard to fade Anthony Davis as he is the only player on the slate capable of putting up  70-plus DK points. That type of upside is hard to ignore, but as always with Davis, you have to hope he can play the entire game. Update: There is a chance he misses this game and if he does JaVale McGee is someone I would be interested in.

Half-Court Shot | Derrick Favors (NO) $5,800 vs. UTA

Opening the restart season against his former team, with a playoff spot on the line, couldn’t be anymore motivating for Favors. His price tag and not having dual-eligibility gives Favors some appeal if you are trying to cram in some of the studs at other positions.

Blocked Shot | Ivica Zubac (LAC) $4,500 @ LAL

It is still unclear if Zubac will join the team in time for the July 30th re-start. Double-check his staus as we get closer to Thursday.
