NBA DFS Strategy Guide

My Strategy For Winning Thousands In NBA

I constantly get asked the question of how to play NBA DFS, well today I’m going to tell you the exact rules that I follow on a daily basis and how I keep winning at a 65 to 70% rate. You don’t have to be some stats guru or an expert at basketball (though it does help) you just have to be smart with your money and follow a system that you create and live by it.

First and foremost, and the most important thing to remember is to quit throwing all of your money into to GPP ( Grand Prize Pools) or tournaments. My main cash grab is always 50/50 and head to head. You have to understand, this is just a simple factor of odds. You have much higher odds in “CASH GAMES” (50/50 or Head to Head) than any other contest, I would much rather take $50 and put it in a double up and double my money on a nightly basis and at the end of the week have a 2 to 500 dollar profit. Just think of it like this, if I take 10 entries in a double up at $5 a piece I have just increased my odds just but having the multiple entries. Don’t get me wrong it’s ok to play gpp just don’t pour all of your money into it, I’ve seen too many people go broke chasing that 50 grand. For every gpp you enter try to cover that entry with a double up. One other little tidbit don’t use all of your bankroll in one night use a percentage of it and always stick with that percent.

Cash Game Strategy

Lets start off here with cash games. In a cash game you want the safest most consistent players you can find. I always start off my research by looking at the Vegas lines (Vegas is rarely wrong) if Golden State is playing OKC, and the over/under is 231 then Vegas is predicting that’s about how many points will be scored. With that in mind you know there will be a lot of points scored, that would be a good game to target and even stack on a smaller slate. The next thing I do is go through all of the players and their salaries. A rule of thumb I go by is a math Formula.

EX:  (Salary)x5.5= value

In other words if Draymond Green has a salary of 7.6k then his value would need to be 7.6×5.5=41.8 Fantasy points. 41.8 points being the points you need from him to hit that cash line. This is what you need to ask yourself about every player you pick. Is his match-up good enough to get me this value. By that method just looking at Match-ups and the player salary you can narrow down the pool a bit.

From there I start looking at Players that are going up against teams that are particularly bad in a certain area. For instance, the Dallas Mavericks are the worst team in the league at rebounding, so tonight they are playing Miami at Miami who has a great rebounder in Hassan Whiteside so he will be a player that will be targeted for me, though the DVP ( defense vs Position) is not great it doesn’t mean that Hassan Whiteside won’t produce.

Next very Important thing to look at is splits ( how a player performs on the Road vs home). Looking at Whiteside again, we can see that at home he is a much better player by 10fppg. So if he had a road game tonight I wouldn’t be as high one him as I am now.

Another very Important thing that I cannot stress enough is watch the injury reports like a HAWK. An injury can kill your night very quickly and make you very mad and never want to play again. With that in mind if you see an injury find out who is starting for them and if that player is capable of bringing you back good value. This is most likely where you will find all of your value picks under that 4k salary.

GPP Strategy

I won’t spend a ton of time on this because I’m just not really into the gpp. To win big in one of these the best thing you can have on your side is a TON of luck, there is no special formula to constantly win in gpp. You may occasionally hit 5 or 6 or 10 dollars but that’s not really the goal here.

My best advice is to be Contrarian in gpp. If everyone is liking a certain player be different and don’t pick that player. You want to go for low ownership players that not a lot of people will be likely to pick. You also want to focus on very high ceiling players that have the potential to explode in any given game. With this strategy you will either totally lose very badly or win a lot of money.

So in a nutshell these are pretty much the basic strategies that you need to follow on a nightly basis to keep your bankroll up and keep winning! It’s not rocket science, it just takes a little research and Knowledge of the game.
