NFL Week 8 Last Call Premium Play to Sit and Forget It
“In a zombie apocalypse, I expect insane things to happen.”~ Chandler Riggs. So, does that mean in Week 7 of the NFL we experienced a zombie apocalypse? The premium and well plays turned out to be insane and the meh play…well he was just as expected.
Week 7 we had heartbreaking injuries, Chris Godwin, Brandon Aiyuk, Mike Evans, Jayden Daniels, Deebo Samuel, and JuJu Smith-Schuster. We had backup quarterbacks coming in relief with Marcus Mariota, Mason Rudolph, and the return of Gardner Minshew (could he be a zombie) and oh my god a Jameis Winston sighting (be still my beating heart—which proves I am not currently a zombie) entering the game to varying “success”.
And we had the premium play sliding in at fantasy QB12 (17.8 fantasy points), the well play coming in at QB13 (17.3) and the meh play being meh at QB14, and Oh Russell Wilson moonballing his way to QB3 (24.9).
So, in honor of last week’s zombie apocalypse, the drink will be a Zombie. Word of warning this drink is approximately 25% ABV (which means that it has a shit ton of alcohol in it), and as the name implies it will release you of some (if not all) of your human qualities for a bit.

Premium Play, Javonte Williams, Running Back, Denver Broncos
Okay, I don’t know about you, but this feels like a week of many premium running backs, and one that looks like a tasty premium choice is Williams against the Carolina Panthers.
First from the Williams side, in his first six weeks, Williams was on the field for 58% of the snaps, had a success percentage that ranked him in 32nd, and only 8.5% of his carries went for 10+ yards. Now fast forward to last week where Williams was on the field for 62.3% of the offensive snaps, his success percentage ranked second and 21.4% of his carries went for 10+ yards.
Yes, it is a small sample size but there is more, in three of his last four games he has gone for 80 or more scrimmage yards.
- Week 7 @ New Orleans Saints, 14 carries 88 yards, three targets, three receptions 23 yards, and two touchdowns.
- Week 6 v Los Angeles Chargers, six carries, 23 yards, six targets, three receptions, 13 yards
- Week 5 v Las Vegas Raiders, 13 carries, 61 yards, six targets, five receptions, 50 yards
- Week 4 @ New York Jets, 16 carries, 77 yards, three targets, three receptions, three yards
And then there is his Week 8 opponent, the Carolina Panthers coming into Mile High with a defense that ranks 32nd. allowing the most rushing touchdowns per game. The Panthers’ defense per game is giving up an average of 1.9 rushing touchdowns. In the last three weeks they allowed 2.3 rushing touchdowns, and last week in a Jayden Daniels-less offense, Brian Robinson Jr. averaged 5.9 yards per carry on 12 rushing attempts and 71 yards.
For the best of fantasy goodness, the Panthers have surrendered 13 rushing touchdowns and the most fantasy points to the position (30.2).
Well Play, Jameis Winston, Quarterback, Cleveland Browns
I feel I have been waiting all season for a Winston sighting in Cleveland, and it is finally here…it is Christman in October, y’ll. And here is the reality of the situation it is Winston, so the possibilities of outcomes span the entire metaverse, seriously. But we will take it.
This week the Browns host the fire-hot Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are giving up the third most fantasy points to the quarterback position (21.7) and are ranked 32nd in passing yards allowed (287.1).
Last week without Mike Evans for most of the game the Ravens allowed Baker Mayfield to throw for 370 yards, the week before Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Daniels threw for 269 yards against them, and in Week 5, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow torched them for 392 yards and five touchdowns.
Take another sip of your Zombie ‘cause this is what we have been waiting for a range of unpredictable outcomes from a quarterback who has no qualms about throwing the ball downfield (to either team)! Let’s goooooooo!
Forget It, Wide Receivers, Josh Downs, Michael Pittman Indianapolis Colts
First, let me state that I adore Anthony Richardson, and I believe after he gets more starts under his belt he will be astounding. But that time is not right now, Richardson is only completing 43% of his passes and we have yet to be treated to his run game that saves his passing inadequacies.
Richardson returned last week and attempted 24 passes of which 10 were completed for 129 passing yards. He did lead the team in rushing yards (56) and tied in rushing attempts (14) but that was only good for a QB23 finish and 8.8 fantasy points.
Pittman and Alec Pierce led the team in targets with five each, Pittman managed three receptions for 63 yards and Pierce had two receptions for 15 yards. The caveat here is that Pierce’s talents line up with Richardson’s strength and as they demonstrated in Week 1 it doesn’t take much to get Pierce over 100+ yards (in Week 1, Pierce was targeted three times for three receptions and 125 yards, averaging 41.7 yards), so yeah it is within a range of outcomes but while Richardson is first in air yards per attempt (12.0), he is also 34th in pressured throws (19), 14th in danger plays (10) and 21st in interceptable passes (6).
For now, it’s best not to count on the Colts’ wide receivers, but the good news is that running back Jonathan Taylor could be back.
