STL Cardinals Land Superstar Arenado, Become World Series Contenders Overnight

The Colorado Rockies have traded their superstar third baseman to the Saint Louis Cardinals for five prospects in their deep and reliable farm system reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

The Rockies are sending a hefty cash consideration to the Cardinals to help cover his large contract that was once an 8 year, 260 million dollar contract but the Cardinals will likely sign a reported 15 million dollar extension through 2027. Arenado is willingly to waive his no trade close as he appears to be poised to join the Cardinals, instantly propelling them to title contenders after a disappointing season ravaged by the pandemic.

The move was rumored days before the trade, but Cardinals fans were skeptical due to the size of his contract. Cardinals GM Mike Girsch likes to build teams without taking on mega contracts in the process. However, the Cardinals believe they have the talent to win now with Arenado being the final piece to the puzzle.

Arenado is one of the best third baseman in the league boasting 8 Golden Gloves along with 4 Silver Slugger Awards and is a five time All-Star. The shortened season was his worst season in batting average posting a .253 average with 46 hits, 23 runs and 8 home runs. His career batting average is .293. He is a hitting machine and provides that extra scoring in critical situations that have plagued the Cardinals the past few seasons. This takes immense pressure off Carpenter to get an RBI or hit which could quite possibly make him a better player.

The Cardinals are used to making deep runs in the playoffs, getting bumped in the first round of the playoffs back to back years. This frustration forced the Cardinals to leverage their status as the third most valuable team in the MLB to make a run for their 12th World Series ring.

The Cardinals have also brought back their hall of fame and beloved pitcher Adam Wainright on a one year deal. Molina is the only other unknown for the Cardinals this offseason. Both sides are still at odds on how much Molina should make this season. With a World Series ring on the table, it might prove as an incentive for Molina to lower his price tag and incentivize Molina to add another ring to pad his hall of fame resume. Another ring would almost certainly cement his name as of the best, if not the best, catchers of all time. Prepare for a red October Saint Louis fans.
