The Best Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Additions for Week 9
Week 8 was a week for QBs. From QBs going down, like Kirk Cousins and Kenny Pickett, to QBs getting benched like Desmond Ridder, to QBs getting their first start and throwing to four TDs, to future Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes scoring fewer points than P.J. Walker. It was just one of those weeks…
QB Will Levis (TEN) 7 Percent Rostered
So you lost Cousins or you are looking for bye-week help. Look no further than Rookie QB Will Levis. The Titans play the Steelers, Bucs, and Jags next three weeks which are decent matchups. He just showed so much maturity Sunday versus the Falcons.
He found Hopkins on three touchdowns and looked calm in the pocket getting the ball out. He threw for 238 yards and four TDs with no interceptions in his NFL debut. So many were down on this kid coming out of Kentucky, but he looked great.
I’m sure he still has a chip on his shoulder after how the draft shook out, but he showed out with his arm and his quick decisions. I can tell you I bet Hopkins is happy about the QB change. If Levis keeps up the pace in the next few weeks, Tannehill might not be returning. – @luvtractor3
RB Leonard Fournette (BUF) 0%
This is more of a news ad than anything. The Bills signed him today and he gets to join a great offense, if you are in running back trouble I think he’s an instant add, and wait and see. Fournette puts up numbers and has for a while. – @TheYetiExpress
Embed from Getty ImagesTE Trey McBride (ARI) 28%
For those of us desperately needing a startable Tight End option, McBride came to the rescue on Sunday. He had 10 catches(on 14 targets) for 95 yards and a touchdown. Equally important, he played on 82 percent of the snaps. Despite only winning five of their last twenty games, the Cardinals have found a way to keep their tight ends heavily involved in the game plan.
On Sunday, McBride had a 38 percent target share. With starting tight end Zach Ertz now on IR with a quad injury, McBride should absorb most of his targets. Being a younger and much more athletic version of Ertz, the sky is the limit for McBride. If quarterback Kyler Murray is able to return from an ACL injury of his own. that will be an added bonus. Fantasy owners should pick up McBride across all leagues, and view him as a top 12 option. – @vandygrad92
WR Rashid Shaheed (NO) 34%
Owned in only 34 percent of redraft leagues, Shaheed had three catches(on three targets) for 154 yards and a touchdown vs the Colts on Sunday. Over the last three games, he has now amassed nine catchez(on 17 targets) for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Shaheed finished as the overall WR5 in week six and the WR4 through Sunday’s games for week 8. While Shaheed continues to show the ability to make the big play, it would benefit both him and the Saints to increase his target share. Over the last three games, Shaheed has garnered a 13 percent target share. At that rate, Shaheed is a viable option as a weekly flex play. If that usage increases, Shaheed can become a consistent WR3. – @vandygrad92
WR Demario Douglas (NE) 6%
Douglas played 77 percent of the snaps this past Sunday with Juju Smith-Schuster seeing a mere 34 percent. With the news that Kenrick Bourne is done for the season and DeVante Parker is in the concussion protocol, the Patriots are running out of players to throw to. – @GeoffLambert77
QB Jameis Winston (NO) 2%
Rumor has it that, by the time you read this, Jameis Winston could be the replacement QB for Kirk Cousins, who tore his Achilles on Sunday. In a pass-happy offense like the Vikings, Winston instantly becomes a QB to own in SuperFlex leagues. – @GeoffLambert77
WR Khalil Shakir (BUF) 5%
If you listened to my podcast this offseason, I was very high on this young man. Unfortunately, he got buried on the depth chart and never had a chance to show what he could do. With Deontay Harty’s ineffectiveness, Shakir has renewed life as a potential deep-league fantasy option. Harty played a mere nine percent of snaps this past Sunday compared to 65 percent for Shakir. – @GeoffLambert77
