The Doctor’s DFS Rx for MLB Draftkings 5/11/15
Welcome to the Doctor’s office folks! Hope you all had a great weekend. For those of you who follow me on twitter, you know that we did great with Friday’s lineup. Saturday was a much different story. The field of pitchers to choose from was a mess. My pitchers for the am slate combined for only 10 points! Then we had Mother’s Day yesterday, and if you’re married you know you’re not getting away on Mother’s to do dfs research. But it’s Monday and now we can jump into another profitable week of MLB dfs. Here we go!
Starting Pitchers
Gerrit Cole ($8,900) Cole is my favorite pick on the board tonight. He’s a strong K throwing pitcher up against the Phillies who’ve had their struggles this season scoring runs. I found it pretty surprising while researching this morning that they hold the leagues lowest total for runs scored at 87 (ouch!). That’s good news for us though, as we should be able to relax and watch Cole keep them in check. And as much as I don’t concern myself with ERA (heard a guy say that’s your Granddad’s stat) a team that can’t score runs will keep our pitchers’ ERA down.
Zack Greinke ($10,200) Let’s first take a look at Miami. They rank 3rd in most K’s with a total of 260 on the season. They also don’t walk a lot with 82 BB’s. However, they rank above the league average in runs, hits and RBI’s. What does this mean for us? Well it tells us that the Marlins have the potential to light up pitchers at any time, just like they did a few nights ago against the Giants. This is the only reservation I have with playing Greinke. I’m not worried about his production, moreso worried about which Marlins team decides to show up.
Jacob DeGrom ($8,100) Here’s what we all know. THE CUBS STRIKEOUT! We also know that DeGrom can throw some K’s and put up a decent K/9 average for the game. Here’s my (slight) reservatioon about selecting pitchers against the Cubs. Like the Marlins, their bats can “come alive” at any moment, but not so much while facing good ptiching. Besides DeGrom is a good price at $8,100, so you won’t feel like you broke the bank (like you would if yoou got Greinke or Scherzer and they got blown up).
