The Fastest Players in the NFL Right Now

What makes an elite level footballer? Is it the ability to pass, the strength to block, the timing of a tackle? The answer to all of that is yes but it’s also so much more; in fact the list is pretty exhaustive. Here, we’re focussing on one element – speed. These are the fastest players in the NFL right now.

Number 5. DK Metcalf

Kicking off our list of the fastest players in the NFL right now is DK Metcalf. One of the standout moments he’s delivered was his infamous track down of Budda Baker when the Arizona Cardinals faced off against the Seattle Seahawks last season. Baker had a massive head start and a burst of speed out of the gates, but it didn’t stop Metcalf from running the length of the field and somehow catching up to him before he reached the end zone.

Considering the sheer size of Metcalf you’d expect him to be slower but, oh no, he can shift. Metcalf has a shed load ofpace; he just doesn’t show it very often. Who knows what sort of speed he’d clock out at if he really opened himself up!

Number 4. Alvin Kamara

Next up is Alvin Kamara. He’s a man that literally looks like he is jogging out there on the field sometimes. Kamara doesn’t have an insane 40-yard dash time and nor has he had any big play to showcase his speed lately but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have pace. If you tune into some of his games you will see that when he gets a small bit of space he just explodes forward.

His acceleration and quickness on the field is the envy of most other players and, due to his body language, a lot of the time it doesn’t look like he is running as fast as he can. He must be though because he seems to burn past everybody. Kamara isn’t a player that you would want to see in a race and you definitely aren’t catching up to him if he breaks free down the sidelines.

Number 3. Lamar Jackson

Once again, Lamar Jackson doesn’t have any crazy statistics to back up this case but if you are just giving it the eye test then he definitely deserves a spot on this list of the fastest players in the NFL right now. Jackson rarely gets opportunities to flash his true speed down the field due to his position at quarterback but the fact that teams are always set up to stop him from running shows his threat.

One stat you can throw out for Jackson though is that he did break the 20 mph mark during a playoff game last year albeit on a small 33-yard rush. If Jackson can find a way to break free down the field for 40 plus yards then numbers will prove why he is listed so highly. The guy can run.

Number 2. Raheem Mostert

Raheem Mostert coming in at number two may surprise some people. He’s one that might have slipped of the radar of late as we haven’t seen him out on the field but he has a couple of theNFL speed records. When he had an 80-yard rushing touchdown in the 2020 season, Mostert was recorded running at over 23 mph; that was the fastest mark in the league that season.

It was he that held the second best speed recorded too; thatinstance occurred during his 76-yard receiving touchdown when he hit 22.73 mph. Now, you might question why he had the fastest time recorded but is second on our list but ask yourself whether acceleration and true speed the same thing? Mostert is unquestionably a speed demon but it’s his ability to accelerate that really shines.

Number 1. Tyreek Hill

Okay, so we’ve discussed Mostert who holds some of the quickest clocked speeds but we’re awarding the fastest player in the NFL right now award to Tyreek Hill and, for us, it was an easy enough call to make. The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver is always breaking out deep downfield and leaving defenders in his dust.

On top of that, he has beaten a couple of people in raceswithout pads including Aaron Jones just a couple of week ago. Hill has also been challenging Usain Bolt to a race which he is certain he will win. Of course, that’s not guaranteed but you don’t call out Bolt if you doubt your own pace. Besides, when you are nicknamed The Cheetah in the NFL, you are definitely a special kind of player.
