The Only Fantasy Wavier Article You Need for Week 5

TE Dawson Knox (BUF) 50% Rostership

Dawson Knox is tied with Rob Gronkowski for the most touchdowns for tight ends this season (4). He is averaging five targets per game from Josh Allen, who, though despite a slow start, is returning to his 2020 form.

Over the last two games, Allen is averaging over 300 yards and three passing touchdowns per game. Two of the next three opponents Knox will face, Kansas City and Miami, rank in the top ten in fantasy points allowed to tight ends. Gone are the days when Knox is a cross-your-fingers flyer, he should be started weekly. – Cecily Riddell @MrsTeamRiddell

RB Samaje Perine (CIN) 5% Rostership

Let’s get wild. Samaje Perine is worth a flyer with Joe Mixon being week to week. At most, he is a Bye Week fill-in and better on your bench than your opponent’s lineup. He hasn’t touched the ball much for me to provide hard evidence to start him though. I’m not all-in on him, but as we’ve learned, opportunity is king. – Jarred Riccadonna @ricco_3733

WR Jamison Crowder (NYJ) 27% Rostership

Jamison Crowder missed the first three weeks of the season with a groin injury. However, in his 2021 debut on Sunday, he quickly became Zach Wilson’s favorite target. On the day, Crowder led the team in targets with nine catching seven of them and scoring a touchdown.

Crowder has always been a bit of a target monster when healthy. He routinely saw double-digit targets last season and has a knack for becoming his quarterback’s security blanket. Going forward, look for Crowder to continue to receive ample targets in an offense that will need to throw to stay in games.

An added bonus on Sunday was the improved play of Wilson. If Wilson and Crowder can stay in sync, Crowder represents a fine flex option as we head into the bye weeks. – Jason Christensen @JayC_DFF

TE Maxx Williams (ARI) 4% Rostership

Just when you thought there were already too many mouths to feed in Arizona, Maxx Williams is starting to demand his share of the scores there too. Luckily for the Cardinals’ receivers, there seem to be enough yards to go around, even when facing an elite defense like the Rams. Kyler Murray ranks third (behind Derek Carr and Tom Brady) in quarterback passing yards.

Williams has seen an average of four targets per game and has hauled in all but one of them. His touchdown catch last week puts him on the radar as a possible bye week fill-in (and those are coming up).

Williams goes up against San Francisco this week, which could be iffy, but stashing him for when he soon faces the Texans, Packers, and Browns, who have given up multiple scores to the tight end position has payoff potential. – Cecily Riddell @MrsTeamRiddell

RB Brandon Bolden (NEP) 23% Rostership

This pick is the antithesis of a sexy pickup. But it is one that could pay big dividends as we come up to bye weeks and as injuries across all teams continue to pile up. Mac Jones showed last night that he is understanding that Patriots philosophy of taking what is given to you by the defense.

He is getting through his reads and making accurate check downs to his backs and Brandon Bolden is the beneficiary for this. This pickup definitely favors the PPR formats, however, he has siphoned TDs in the past running the ball too.

As a fun side note, if your league does any sort of IDP or return yards scoring, he is involved in those aspects of the game too, and can tack on a few extra points here or there as well. – Jake Kohlhagen @jakekohlhagen

RB Damien Williams (CHI) 14% Rostership

It looks like David Montgomery is going to miss some time and Damien Williams looked very strong after he started getting the work. He got 75% of the snaps after Monty went down with 10 total touches (8 rushes, 2 catches on 2 targets). Not only did he get the snaps and touches but he made the most of those opportunities.

Running for almost 7 yards a carry and hitting paydirt! All that being said, Damien did get banged up as well and has a bone bruise, though it has been rumored that he should be OK. His status should be monitored and if he can’t go Khalil Herbert is the only other active RB on the roster. –Kyle Bazin @KyleTheCommish

TE C.J. Uzomah (CIN) 3% Rostership

Let’s not forget about the breakout game that Uzomah had way back on Thursday night scoring 2 TDs on 5 catches for 95 yards. Uzomah looked like he might break out in 2020 with 8 catches for 87 yards and a TD in two games before getting hurt and not playing again the rest of the season. This isn’t a fluke, when healthy, Uzomah is a usable tight end. Geoff Lambert @GeoffLambert77

WR Randall Cobb (GB) 16% Rostership

Randall Cobb is very much in play here for as long as MVS is out. Don’t forget during the Aaron Rodgers saga he went out and said I want us to get Randall Cobb. I would say this is more of a deep league grab unless you are in trouble at WR. Don’t look now but The Packers have won 4 straight and Cobb’s workload is ramping up. – Jared Good @TheYetiExpress

WR Kadarius Toney (NYG) 12% Rostership

Unfortunately, it took injuries to Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton for Kadarius Toney to get his opportunity but the young wideout out has quickly impressed, showing why he was so highly touted coming out of Florida. Last week he led all Giants’ receivers in routes run, following that with an impressive performance in Week 4.

He showed off his speed and elusiveness with 5 forced missed tackles against the New Orleans Saints while. Toney was a highly anticipated rookie coming into this NFL season with first-round pedigree and with no timetable for the return of Shepard or Slayton, you can safely plug and play him into lineups moving forward. – Evan Ritter @ev_ritt3

WR A.J Green (ARI) 38% Rostership

Sometimes you just look at the hottest offenses in the NFL and try to get a piece of that. AJ Green has been targeted 6 times in each game in the highest-scoring offense in football. I’ll take that. Hopkins hasn’t been the sole WR of focus this season for Kyler Murray with Green, Kirk, and Moore all getting some work.

Green may not be consistent enough to get into your starting lineup for now. But we know how talented he is from his Cincy days and he has never been in an offense this exciting. Age be damned, he deserves to be rostered higher than 38%. – Kyle Bazin @KyleTheCommish

WR DeVante Parker (MIA) 52% Rostership

Parker is tied for 13th in the NFL in targets. He has as many targets as Travis Kelce and CeeDee Lamb. Don’t worry… I had the same face as you when I looked at the numbers. Will Fuller has already been ruled out of the Week 5 matchup against Tampa Bay.

A team that is down to third and fourth string cornerbacks. This game has sneaky shoot-out appeal. Parker is a solid third WR or FLEX option for your team in Week 5 especially if you are struggling with injuries. – Erik Johnson @FantasyBBQ

QB Taylor Heinicke (WFT) 21% Rostership

You may not have heard of Taylor Heinicke before the season started, but here you are, looking to pick him up as a quarterback, and it’s actually a pretty decent option. Watching Heinicke play is a bit of a nerve-wracking experience, as his skills are still immature. But his 290-yard, three-touchdown game put him in the top five in fantasy scoring quarterbacks (in most formats) last week.

He’s thrown eight touchdowns this year, which is as many as Aaron Rodgers and more than big-time passers like Ryan Tannehill and Jared Geoff. Oh, and he’s got that rushing bonus potential, ranking 8th among quarterbacks in rushing yards.

His upcoming game against the Saints might appear to be a turnoff, but they just surrendered 402 passing yards to the mediocre passing crew of the Giants. If he can keep from turning the ball over, Heinicke can be a starter in deep leagues and a reliable backup elsewhere. – Cecily Riddell @MrsTeamRiddell

WR Darnell Mooney (CHI) 56% Rostership

A player that has been tinkering with success most of the year, Mooney finally made the big splash in week four. During the first two weeks of the season, Mooney had 11 catches(on 15 targets) for 92 yards and no touchdowns. Week 3 saw a complete collapse of the entire Bears’ offense, as they managed only 47 yards of net offense(including nine sacks for minus 67 yards).

In week four vs the Lions, Mooney had five catches(on seven targets) for 125 yards and no touchdowns. He also added one rush for 10 yards. On the season, Mooney has 17 catches(on 26 targets) for 226 yards. The 26 targets make Mooney the team leader, two ahead of Allen Robinson’s 24.

Despite the Bears’ inconsistent play at QB, Mooney should be owned in more than the 56 percent of leagues that he is currently owned in. He has the potential to be a WR3/flex play in all 12 team leagues. – Brian Craighead @vandygrad92
