Three Reasons Why The Philadelphia Eagles are “Pennsylvania’s Team”
The Keystone state rivalry between The Philadelphia Eagles and The Bumble Bees (The Steelers) of Pittsburgh PA is the best interstate rivalry in the NFL. Back in my father’s day, The Bees swarmed the Eagles like that of “The Wickerman” so much so the poor man briefly switched sides. Since I’ve been a fan of The Eagles The Philadelphia Eagles have swooped down from the sky in this analogy to pick up the pitiful Steelers like a poor mountain goat to then drop off a mountain. In other word’s if your an NFL fan in your twenties as I am then you know that for the most part, The Philadelphia Eagles are the team of the Keystone state. Here are 5 reasons why:
1: The Philadelphia Eagles have won their three last games against the Steelers. Back when Donovan McNabb was still The Eagles QB he beat The Steelers twice. Once by a score of 15 to 9 and again by a score of 27 to 3.
The last time that these two storied franchises met QB Carson Wentz destroyed the bees 34 to 3 in a game in which the Steelers were favored by 10 points. Quite simply put They have owned The Pittsburgh Steelers almost as much as they own the Giants this past decade. With The Eagles trending upwards and The Steelers beginning to look more like The Cleveland Browns, I expect this to continue for some time.
2: The Philadelphia Eagles have become a much more well-run organization over the past few years. They have the occasional headache with a player just like every franchise does in the NFL but not the chronic migraine That The Steelers have had with star players over the years. WR Antonio Brown and RB Leveon Bell are the two most obvious migraines that have held the Steelers back, but QB Ben Rothlisberger has been the absolute worst over the past three years. He says that he’s considering retirement, then gets upset when his team drafts a QB to develop in the third round instead of a new WR, RB, or TE for him to throw to. How does any NFL team cope with that? The Eagles are more disciplined yet still have more fun somehow. They have far better coaching and a far better GM. This quite obviously pays huge dividends to their success.
3: The last time the Steelers won a Super Bowl Championship was almost a decade and a half ago. The Eagles recently won one of the most exciting Super Bowl games ever played when they beat The patriots in Super Bowl 52 41 to 33
only one year and eleven months ago. In the last three seasons, The Philadelphia Eagles have made The Playoffs exactly three times. They won 5 playoff games during that span and look poised to make yet another run this upcoming season. The Steelers? They have missed the playoffs by a mile two years in a row. They did make the playoffs once in three seasons…three seasons ago but did little as they were knocked out WITH their franchise QB playing in the entire Wild Card Game. I think it’s safe to say that very soon Eagles Head Coach will be named NFL Head Coach of the year, While Steeler’s longtime Head coach Mike Tomlin should be seeing the exit door quite possibly even this offseason. Steeler players hate Mike Tomlin and it shows. Philadelphia Eagles players are as happy while still disciplined as can be and play their hearts out for Doug Peterson and it shows. Eagles players are very eager to impress their Head Coach as Steelers players simply shy away from theirs. The Eagles will be contenders almost every year that master play-caller Douggie P is their Coach. The Steelers are falling into NFL mediocrity and with The Baltimore Ravens in their division, it’s only going to get worse for them.
Bold prediction: This upcoming season The Eagles win at least two playoff games and the Steelers miss the playoffs for a third straight year. If Mike Tomlin is not fired during this offseason it certainly won’t be very long until he is. My guess: Mike Tomlin will be fired during the 2020 NFL season, and will be replaced by a coach who is not much better if at all.
