Three Things Week 6 in the NFL Taught Us

The Monday Night games are on full display but we still have lessons from the Sunday slate:

You Can Spell DYSFUNCTION Without JETS but Why Would You?

So let’s get this right, first, the defensive coordinator makes a quip about the offense on his team? The head coach then replies, “everyone needs to shut up and play”, which to everyone’s defense hasn’t happened in five weeks. Then they part ways with running back Le’Veon Bell, leaving them with Frank Gore, Ty Johnson and La’Mical Perine to fill out the running back stable. Now there are talks of trading quarterback Sam Darnold this all the while Week 6 traveling to Miami to play the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets lost that game 24-0. Quarterback Joe Flacco had 186 yards, one interception while being sacked three times. Gore was the leading rusher with 46 yards on 11 carries and no wide receiver had more than 65 yards. Meanwhile, the defense allowed Ryan Fitzpatrick to toss three touchdowns, running back Myles Gaskin to gain 91 yards and allow every tight end on the Dolphins roster not named Mike Geisicki to get one touchdown.

The Jets are 0-6. They are 32nd in points scored per game (12.5), 22nd in rushing yards per game (105.5), and 32nd in passing yards per game (171.3). Their defense is 21 against the run allowing 125.5 rushing yards per game, 23rd against the pass allowing 253.3 passing yards per game and 27th in opponents touchdowns per game allowing 3.7.

Oh yeah and currently both Gase and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams are still employed by the New York Jets.

HI TUA!

Ladies and gentlemen, there was a Tua Tagovailoa sighting. Against the aforementioned Jets, Tagovailoa came into the game to attempt two passes and complete two passes for nine yards. What was particularly special is that after the game Tagovailoa went back to the field in full uniform, sat on the 15-yard line and FaceTimed his parents who couldn’t be at the game.

This was his first time on the field as an NFL player and first time on the field since his devastating hip injury at Alabama.

ATLANTA FALCONS v MINNESOTA VIKINGS

It’s going to be an easy victory they said. Alexander Mattison will score a ton of fantasy points they said. Play Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson without worry they said. The Falcons are done they said.

Julio Jones said hold my beer. On Jones’s game back from his injury and Raheem Morris’ first game as the Falcons interim head coach, the Falcons went into Minnesota and beat the Vikings 40-23. Jones finished the game with eight receptions on 10 targets for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Matt Ryan’s passer rating was 136.6 this week.  The three weeks without Jones and with Dan Quinn it was 63.6; 92.4; and 67.7.  Welcome back Julio…see ya Dan.

As for Minnesota, Kirk Cousins threw three interceptions while Mattison averaged 2.6 yards per carry. Minnesota will go into their bye week 1-5, sitting on the bottom of the NFC North with a meeting with the Green Bay Packers on the other side.

It wasn’t a complete bust from the fantasy perspective, Cousins is currently QB4 and Justin Jefferson is WR1.

Atlanta meanwhile hopes to continue their winning way, against the Detroit Lions in Week 7.
