Top 10 Takeaways From Eagles Win Over Chargers
1: The game wasn’t as close as the score. The Philadelphia Eagles played dominant football on both sides of the ball. The defense put constant pressure on QB Philip Rivers and the offense put up over 450 yards. It felt like The Eagles were in control of this game after the offense scored a TD on their first drive after the defense forced a sack and fumble on QB Philip Rivers. The Eagles won 26 to 24 but to me, it feels like they won by 20. Simply put the Eagles dominated the game and looked like the better team throughout this football game.
2: The Chargers are not as bad as their record. Despite the feeling like they didn’t have a shot in this game, they did technically have a shot. They technically lost by two points. This team should have beaten the Denver Broncos earlier on in the season, but couldn’t run out the clock and they lost by a last-second field goal. They also lost a tough game by 2 points to the Dolphins in week 2.
3: QB Philip Rivers is still good. Unlike QB Eli Manning QB Philip Rivers can still play. He hasn’t declined like Manning has. He still plays like a top 10 QB and was the best QB that the Eagles have faced this year. The Eagles defense responded very well to the test.
4: The officiating in this game was bad but evened out because it was bad for both teams. Eagles rookie CB Rasul Douglas was the beneficiary of a ridiculous holding call in which he didn’t contact the WR, and the Chargers had a phantom offensive line holding call but still scored on the drive. The NFL needs to let football players play actual football a bit more.
5: The Eagles have one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL. RB LeGarrette Blount has been running like a man possessed since week 3 and had 136 yards rushing in this game. 12 of the Eagles 19 first downs were running plays. RBs Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement ran well too, but it was Blount’s day.
6: The Eagles rookie class is playing some good football. I’m still waiting for DE Derek Barnett to show up on the stat sheet but he’s had some nice hurries on the QB. WR Mack Hollins has over 100 yards receiving as the teams 5th WR. CB Rasul Douglas is all over the football.
7. QB Carson Wentz might just be the most elusive QB in the NFL. He made opposing players miss him over and over. That has to be frustrating for a defense. It’s great for Eagle’s fans. He’s playing like a top 5 NFL QB and it’s time that he gets the attention that he deserves. He’s throwing lasers, running for first downs, and hitting WRs deep. Now he has a running game to work with. He also had a beautiful TD pass to WR Alshon Jeffry. Watch out NFL because QB Carson Wentz is flat out balling right now.
8. The Eagles are a playoff team. I believe that. They’re playing like a playoff team, and Doug Pederson is a better Head Coach than most think. This team has a legitimate chance of winning the NFC East. They are now 3-1 and each win has come against either a good team or desperate team. The only game that they have lost so far was only by a TD to the no.1 ranked Kansas City Chiefs. nobody thought they would be 3-1 to start the season. Nobody thought they would be this dang good other than some Eagles fans, and intelligent writers. They also have a favorable matchup at home vs the Cardinals in week 5.
9. The Defensive line still remains the biggest strength of this team. The corners are playing better, and they have one of the best safety tandems in the NFL. That said this defensive line might be the best in the league. They added 2 more sacks today giving them 11. That is the highest amount of sacks that they’ve had through the first few weeks of a season since 2012.
10. Classy move by the Eagles at the end of the game to not run up the score against the Chargers. they had the football at the 10-yard line with over a minute left to go and could have easily punched in one more TD on a gassed Charger defense which would have made the final score 32 to 24.

11. ( I couldn’t resist) The Eagles are now ranked as the 5th best team in the NFL via CBS. I’m looking forward to reading the NFL’s power rankings when it comes out later this week. I think they will likely be ranked at No. 3 in the NFL after this win. They were ranked number 6 in the NFL before this game. This is a good year to be an Eagles fan. I really enjoy the NFL power rankings. If I were to rank The Philadelphia Eagles I would rank this team at number 2 or 3 in the NFL at the moment. I’ll say 3 to be safe for now.
