Top Waiver Wire Additions for Week 5 (Fantasy Football)
WR Isaiah Ford (MIA) 1% Owned
Ford plays for the Dolphins who will be playing from behind all season. He had 10 targets 4 catches 44 yards and a TD. He has 19 catches on the year through 4 weeks and 25 targets. — @yetiexpress2
RB Chase Edmonds (ARI) 34% Owned
One of the most disappointing players through four games this season is easily Kenyan Drake. Although Drake’s getting a 67% snap count, his backup Chase Edmonds is getting all the passing work. Edmonds has 17 targets to Drakes 5, which he’s turned into 13 catches and two touchdowns.
Drake is averaging a paltry 3.8 yards per carry, and although Edmonds is averaging virtually the same (3.7), he looks much more electric with the ball and could be in line for more work if Drake continues to underperform. — @GMenJay
QB Teddy Bridgewater (CAR) 19% Owned
Remember when Bridgewater played for the Minnesota Vikings and he was pretty good? Then he suffered a devastating knee injury. Remember when he came back, played for the New Orleans Saints when Drew Brees got hurt and he was pretty good? Now he is the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.
He is completing 74% of his passes and he has a team that is without its number one weapon 2-2. But the bonus is that his defense is a sieve. In week 4 he attempted 37 passes, completed 26 for 276 yards, 2 touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for a touchdown.
Anytime a quarterback gives you both passing and rushing stats it’s a bonus. Bye weeks are coming up and two if his next three opponents include the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, both whose game script implies a lot of passing will need to get done. Bridgewater is worth a stash. — @neverenoughglt
QB Justin Herbert (LAC) 16% Owned

We’re probably only talking about short leagues at this point with Herbert, but if the stats haven’t gotten you to notice him yet (290 pass yards and 3 TDs v. Tampa yesterday), pay attention to what others in the league are now saying about him. Bucs coach Bruce Arians openly compared him to Patrick Mahomes following Sunday’s contest. You no longer need to fear a return to the lineup of Tyrod Taylor, Herbert is the real deal. — @RobertBlock07
RB D’Ernest Johnson (CLE) 3% Owned
Brown’s star RB, Nick Chubb, left Dallas with an injury to his ankle and/or knee in tow. After he exited, Hunt assumes the role as Cleveland’s starter but rookie, D’Ernest Johnson, was heavily involved also. Johnson ran for 95 yards for 13 carries and didn’t have a role in the passing game, but this is too substantial to be overlooked. If Chubb is to miss an extended amount of time, Cleveland’s newest 1-2 backfield punch could involve Johnson. — @TB24FF
RB Damien Harris (NEP) 27% Owned
Hopefully, you stashed Damien Harris, who was the talk of the Patriots’ camp. In his first action of the season, the second-year pro has apparently become the primary ball carrier with 17 carries and 100 yards. The runningback committee situation should be monitored closely in New England, but there’s no reason he should continue to be available in 73% of leagues. Even though Harris was not involved in the passing game, I expect his role to expand as he gets further integrated into the offense and once Cam Newton returns. — @shawn_sulli5
WR Laviska Shenault (JAX) 24% Owned
I mentioned Shenault in our Week 2 waiver column, but as he is still only sitting at 24% rostered, I feel the need to mention him again. He’s playing 60% of the offensive snaps and is tied with Chris Conley for second on the team in targets with 20.
Jacksonville knows they have an offensive weapon on their hands and Shenault is also lining up in the backfield, already totaling nine rushes for 53 yards on the season. He’s scored double digits in three out of four games this season, and especially with byes starting in Week 5 is someone you can start as a flex or WR3. He figures to be involved in the Jaguars offense all season long. — @GMenJay
WR Tim Patrick (DEN) 1% Owned
Patrick has been quite the target hog in Denver even with different quarterbacks. He has caught 16 of 21 targets so far. With a banged-up Broncos defense, they will play from behind more often than not. When behind, Patrick has caught ten of 12 targets for 141 yards and a touchdown, making him a 2nd half “garbage time” acquisition. — @ricco_3733
WR Jeff Smith (NYJ) 0% Owned
In Smith’s first action of the 2020 season, he drew 9 targets and converted those targets into 7 catches and 81 yards. Opposite of Jamison Crowder, he has a good chance to fly under the radar of opposing defenses. With the New York Jets predictably playing from behind most of the season, he could be a good stash to possibly starting once players start going through bye weeks. With the number of injuries, we have seen thus far and if you have the available roster spot, I suggest at least giving Smith a look. — @Shawn_Sulli5
RB Justin Jackson (LAC) 5% Owned
Austin Ekeler is set to miss multiple weeks after hyper-extending his knee Sunday. With Josh Kelley as the easy bet to lead the backfield in his absence, Jackson seems to be flying under the radar. Head Coach Anthony Lynn has always leaned towards a two-back system; that gives Jackson value by itself. People forget that in 2019, before Melvin Gordon’s return, he put up a bonkers 7.8 YPC when splitting time with Ekeler. — @joshmkerr
RB Darrynton Evans (TEN) 1% Owned
Gonna be getting a lot of passing work. Finally healthy, look for him to carve out a PPR role. — @EagleDanFF
QB Daniel Jones (NYG) 34% Owned
Daniel Jones has been a disappointment through the first four weeks of the season. There was a lot of clamor for him to be the next second year breakout QB. He has faced a murder’s row of defenses through the first quarter of the season. Luckily for him and for those who stream the QB position, he is playing the Dallas Cowboys this week. The Cowboys have allowed opposing QBs to put up a 258 yard, 3 TD average on the year. Jones will enjoy a gamescript that requires him to throw the ball a ton. Fire him up with confidence in week five. — @ffb_bbq
