Week 10 Rapid Reactions – QB Changes

We are more than halfway through the season and SHOULD have about 6 more weeks of fantasy football. Every week presents different challenges and things to think about from the week prior so until the end of the season I will share with you some rapid reactions that can shake up our fantasy football seasons. Without further ado here is week 10’s rapid reactions!

QB Changes shake-up fantasy teams

In week 10 we will see the return of Nick Foles to the Jaguars line up, Ryan Finley will get his first-ever start for the zero win Bengals and the watch to see if Jacoby Brisset will get the start this week after an MCL sprain all will present changes to our fantasy line ups.

Let’s start with the return of Nick Foles to the Jaguars lineup next week. Doug Marrone announced that the Minshew era is over for now and the big Jacksonville free agent signee Nick Foles who was just removed from the IR be taking the helm back for the Jags after their bye week. Foles did not make it out of the first quarter of the Jags first game of the season but in his short outing, he was actually pretty good. He went five for eight with 75 yards and a touchdown. So what does this do for the fantasy value of the Jaguars players like Fournette, the 2019 breakout candidate DJ Chark and the rest of the team? In my opinion, I think it gives a boost to all of the Jaguars players with the biggest boost going to Leonard Fournette. The ball security for Foles is significantly better then Minshews which will give Fournette more opportunities to carry the rock. I also think it will make opposing teams respect the pass more at the goal line so hopefully, we can see the big man from LSU in the endzone more than just the one time he is been there this season. Now to DJ Chark. Out of Foles eight pass attempts two of those targets were to Chark and he caught both of them for 42 yards and Foles only touchdown of the season. I think there is a connection between the two of them which will help Charks breakout season continue. Foles also gave two targets to Fournette and Chris Conley as Foles has always been good at distributing the ball well between the pass catchers on his teams. I believe the Foles return will be a good thing for the fantasy players of the Jaguars and Foles should be added if he is on the waivers in any of your Superflex leagues.

The next fantasy impact change at quarterback will go to Ryan Finley. It was announced last week that Finley will be taking over the helm in Cincinnati for Andy Dalton which was shocking to me as they announced it about an hour before the trade deadline ended not giving their long-time quarterback Andy Dalton any time to request a trade out of Cincinnati. The question that lies for most of us now is what does this do for the fantasy outlook of players like the underperforming Joe Mixon and the steady presence of the Bengals offense Tyler Boyd? I think this move hurts Joe Mixon more as defenses will not respect the young quarterback out of NC State and stack the boxes to slow Mixon down even more than he has been slowed down already this season. In redraft, I think Mixon will not be more than just a bye week fill-in from here on out and a steady presence on your bench and in dynasty, he has to be held as he will not return the proper value. I think it will also hurt the Bengals wide receivers as this is the first couple of weeks Finley is getting first-team reps and has not had the time to get properly acclimated to his pass-catchers. This seems like a fantasy mess that at this point in the season that I rather just stay away from. The arrow is definitely pointing down for this Bengals offense for fantasy value.

The final reaction to the QB changes I won’t go as in-depth on because there is question if Brisset will miss time after being diagnosed with an MCL sprain Sunday against the Steelers. This is an injury that you can play through and Brisset normally plays with a brace on anyways. BUT it is against the Dolphins and Brian Hoyer is more than capable of taking this Colts team to a victory over the Dolphins. At most I think this could be a one week fill-in for the long-time vet Brian Hoyer. He came in and ran the offense quite well against the Steelers going 17/26 for 168 and three touchdowns. He spread the ball around quite well in that game throwing his three touchdowns to three different receivers. I think the expectations for your Colts players except Marlon Mack should be tampered slightly but not a crazy amount in this matchup if Hoyer gets the start. Hoyer probably should not be picked up in leagues if he does get the start unless you stream QBs in really deep leagues and maybe a sneaky DFS play.
