Week 2 Top Waiver Wire Additions (#fantasyfootball)
Waiver Wire Week 2
Ryan Cearfoss
Ryancearfoss@fntsyfbconnect
This year’s waiver wire is going to look a little different. I’m going to be breaking these down by ownership groupings, so it doesn’t just cater to people in specific league sizes. I’ll also specifically mark the ads of the week.
Players available in 50-70% of Leagues
Marquez Valdez-Scantling- WR- Packers
The Packers vastly underperformed week one but one thing became clear from their performance and that’s the Marquez Valdez-Scantling is their number two option in the passing game. Once the Packers offense starts clicking (and it will) it should lead to some great performances out of MVS. If Valdez-Scantling is on your waiver wire he should be a priority
Jamison Crowder– WR – New York Jets
Crowder led the entire NFL with 17 targets and became the first receiver ever to have 14 catches and not a 100 yards. That type of volume is PPR gold and if you’re lucky enough to have Crowder on the waiver wire snatch him up.
Philip Rivers– QB- Chargers
Somehow Philip Rivers is available in 34% of leagues and has a great matchup next week against the Lions. Not only is that a top tier streaming option but he’s a guy you can keep and play the entire season. If you need a QB and hes out there now it’s time to pounce.
Players available in 25-50% of leagues
Marquis “Hollywood” Brown- WR – Baltimore Ravens

Mark Andrews– TE – Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens offense carved up the Dolphins with an efficiency that isn’t sustainable. What is sustainable is the role that Andrews had in the Ravens offense. Andrews led the team in targets, had 108 yards, a touchdown (almost two, he fell down on the one) and finished as tight end 1 overall. While some of the other Ravens weapons were far more flashy this week Andrews was reliable and I still available everywhere.
T.J. Hockenson– TE- Detroit Lions
The rookie tight end Hockenson did everything he could this week to show he was well worth the high draft pick. Hockenson caught 6 of 9 targets for 131 yards and a touchdown. Tied thru week 1 for the second most targeted player in the offense, Hockenson could be a tight end you can feel comfortable playing every week.
Ronald Jones– RB- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Giovani Bernard– RB- Cincinnati Bengals
John Brown– WR- Buffalo Bills
John Brown showed up immediately as Josh Allen’s favorite targets not only did he have 97 yards but he caught the game-winning touchdown. As the season goes on and chemistry builds Allen to Brown could be a lethal combination that can get John Brown in the high end wr3 low-end wr2 range. He should be a priority add.
Players available in less than 25% of leagues
Chris Thompson– RB- Washington Redskins
Wow, what a travesty that Chris Thompson wasn’t owned even before the injury to Guice. It was only two seasons ago the Thompson was a top 12 in points per game for running backs in PPR. With just Adrian Peterson there and still not a high powered offense Thompson can be a nice volume play in PPR this season and is a must roster who you can feel comfortable starting in a pinch.
CJ Anderson- RB- Detroit Lions
Darren Sproles– RB- Philadelphia Eagles
Raheem Mostert– RB- San Francisco 49ers
Dare Ogunbowale– RB- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
A.J. Brown – WR- Tennessee Titans
John Ross– WR- Cincinnati Bengals
It was great to see a healthy John Ross finally on the field and he didn’t disappoint. Ross took a team-leading 12 targets and turned it into 7 catches 158 yards and two touchdowns. Dalton felt confident throwing the ball to Ross and he looked like the perfect addition to the offense. When AJ Green comes back it may take away from his volume but he definitely has a very specific role in Zac Taylor’s offense. Until then Ross could be in for huge games if this volume continues.
Terry McLaurin– WR- Washington Redskins
McLaurin kept the trend of speed going. With limited talent at the receiver position, McLaurin stepped up turning 7 targets into 125 yards and a touchdown. His ability to stretch the field and make plays is an interesting addition to the Redskins offense and if we get to the point where Haskins gets in their chemistry from college should kick in.
Danny Amendola– WR- Detroit Lions
Danny Amendola was absolutely fed in the Lions offense, big surprise. Matt Patricia went with what was tried and true in New England, having Amendola targeted 13 times where he produced 104 yards and a touchdown.
Chris Conley– WR – Jacksonville Jaguars
Gardner Minshew (Superflex only)- QB- Jacksonville Jaguars
Vernon Davis– TE- Washington Redskins
