NFL Player Comparision | Ty Montgomery (but in a good way)
2019 Rookie Draft Projection | Mid/Late Second Round
Bottom Line
Gibson is difficult to scout because he profiles as an NFL running back but played like a wide receiver at Memphis. He even tested as a wide receiver at the combine. He has the balance and change of direction of a running back, but the hands and ball skills of a wide receiver. Ty Montgomery was the best comp I could come up with as Montgomery played wide receiver in the NFL to start his career and made the transition to running back.Â
Gibson will have to land on a team with a creative offensive coordinator as his blend of skills are so unique that he is almost positionless. It will take a good coordinator to find out how best to use Gibson as he isn’t quite a wide receiver but he isn’t quite a running back either. Someone like Sean Peyton or Andy Reid could find ways to use this kid in creative ways. Â
His lack of usage in college is both positive and negative. On one hand, we don’t have a ton of film on him to really get a good feel for the type of player he can be, but on the other hand, he has low mileage on his body and, if he can truly transition to a wide receiver, his career could last longer.
