4 Top Contenders for Super Bowl LVII

With the playoffs just about to kick off and Super Bowl LVII now on the horizon, the competition in the NFL is certainly hotting up. An unpredictable season has seen some favored teams fall away before their challenge had hardly begun, while others who looked dead and buried have enacted a remarkable comeback to stake their claim for football’s biggest trophy.

So, with the field of viable candidates narrowing out by the day, who are the biggest contenders for the Vince Lombardi Trophy come February 12th? Although it’s easy to check out the hottest favorites according to the sportsbooks on this website, we’ve used our own insights to highlight the nuance and unpredictability which makes NFL so awesome. Here are the four top contenders for Super Bowl LVII in our eyes…

Kansas City Chiefs

With a record of 13-3-0 at the time of writing, the Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their seventh consecutive division title with games to spare. That imperious form means they’ll fancy their chances of reaching a third Super Bowl in four years.

That’s largely thanks to the presence of Patrick Mahomes, who hasn’t suffered from the loss of Tyreek Hill at all. The stalwart quarterback is even a dark horse to eclipse the sport’s single-season passing record of 5,477 yards, set by Peyton Manning in 2013. Mahomes needs 429 yards in the last game of the regular season, which is a tall order – but stranger things have happened.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles’ regular season record at the time of writing equals the Chiefs’, and they look in pole position to secure the No. 1 seed for the NFC. There are plenty of reasons to believe they can go further in the playoffs too, with a core of experienced veterans bolstered by some of the most exciting talents in the NFL today. In quarterback Jalen Hurts, for example, the Eagles have one of the best young prospects out there. Meanwhile, the formidable duo of AJ Brown and De’Vonta Smith give him plenty of options in football’s second highest-scoring offense (behind the Chiefs).

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have never tasted Super Bowl glory, having reached the final on four occasions but having lost them all. Could 2023 finally be their year? They have certainly shown their credentials by sealing the NFC North Division crown ahead of highly fancied favorites Green Bay. However, a crushing defeat against the Packers in Week 17 exposed their frailties in no uncertain terms. If they’re to go deep in the playoffs, they’ll need to avoid a repeat of that performance at all costs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With a record of 8-8-0 at the time of writing, the Buccaneers are definitely the outside bet on this list… but they’re an outside bet with a proven winner in their ranks. Any team containing Tom Brady simply can’t be discounted. What’s more, the legendary QB has hauled them to five victories in their last eight matches, including a late touchdown against the Carolina Panthers to secure the division title. With his iron will to win, it would be a brave man who would bet against Tampa from winning their third (and Brady’s eighth) Lombardi this February.
