Top Pitching Options

Chris Archer (DK – $10400, FD – $10200) – Chris Archer has been absolutely dominant this year and is rightfully in the discussion for all-star game starter in the AL. Archer has a ridiculous 2.43 SIERA and 32.7% strikeout rate. He might night have the name recognition now as one of the top pitchers in baseball, but he will soon. The Rays take on the Mariners, who sport a 0.293 wOBA (26th) and 23.5% strikeout rate (28th) vs. RHP. Archer is the top pitching option on the day for both cash and GPPs.

Mike Fiers (DK – $8100, FD – $7800) – Mike Fiers has been a sneak good pitcher this year. The reason we look at SIERA, rather than ERA, is because we want to see how a pitcher actually pitches independent of other variables. While Fiers has a 4.06 ERA this year, he has a strong 3.27 SIERA (meaning he’s likely been unlucky) and 26.6% strikeout rate. Fiers faces a Twins team that does well against lefties but struggles against righties – 0.289 wOBA an 21.7% strikeout rate. With the game away from hitter friendly Miller Park, Fiers is a great play.

Ryan Vogelsong (DK – $6400, FD – $6600) – if you’re looking to go super cheap at pitcher, Vogelsong could be an option. He takes on a Phillies team with an atrocious 0.270 wOBA vs. RHP and they strikeout at an about league average 19.8% of the time. And despite Vogelsong being a pitcher we like to target against in DFS, he has posted four 20+ fantasy point games this year and is likely in line for another. Definitely GPP play only.

Top Hitting Options

Jason Kipnis (DK – $4800, FD – $4500) – The Indians face Bud Norris, who has really struggled this year with a 5.13 SIERA, 9.88 ERA, and 1.87 WHIP. He also allows a 0.494 wOBA vs. LHH, putting all the Indians’ lefties in play. That means Kipnis, who is always a good price under $5k. Kipnis has a 0.443 wOBA and 0.178 ISO vs. RHP on the year and should be in for a big day on Sunday.

Brandon Belt (DK – $4500, FD – $3600) – Belt is having a nice year and is easily one of my favorite play of the day. The Giants face off against Sean O’Sullivan, who gets dominated be lefties to the tune of a 0.509 wOBA and allows 2.06 HR/9 (and 5.29 HR/9 vs. LHH). Belt also hits righties very well with a 0.420 wOBA and 0.261 ISO. Belt also leaves pitcher friendly AT&T Park and plays in Citizens Bank Park. At a reasonable $4500, Belt is one of, if not the, top options at 1B.

Joey Gallo (DK – $3500, FD – $3200) – Gallo has understandably slowed down, going 0-4 on Friday and 1-5 yesterday. His price has come back down a bit, which is great because he has a nice matchup against Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie has pitched poorly this year with a 5.60 SIERA (worst of the day), 1.67 HR/9, and allowed a 0.437 wOBA to LHH. In a very small sample, Gallo has a 0.617 wOBA and 0.571 ISO vs. RHP. There’s a decent chance Gallo takes Guthrie yard in this game and at $3500 that’s a great ROI.

Nick Hundley C (DK – $3800, FD – $2700) – Hundley offers cheap exposure to the Rockies and faces Jose Urena, who has struggled against RHH (0.454 wOBA against) and Hundley has hit RHP well with a 0.401 wOBA and 0.212 ISO. He got the day off Saturday so should be back in the lineup Sunday.
