Top Pitching Options

Chris Sale (DK – $11400, FD – $10900) – To say Sale has been dominant lately wouldn’t do it justice. In his last five outings, he has struck out 11, 7, 10, 12, and 13 batters. He scored at least 25 Draftkings points in each game and 42.9 and 42.8 in the last two. His strikeout rate is 30.0%, 1.05 WHIP, and 2.73 SIERA. After a dominant performance against a strong Rangers team, Sale gets an Astros team with an average 0.313 wOBA but weak 23.9% strikeout rate vs. LHP. Sale’s streak of double-digit strikeouts should continue, making him the top pitching option on the day.

A.J. Burnett (DK – $9500, FD – $9200) – Burnett is the second biggest favorite on the day at -160 and pitches at home in pitcher friendly PNC Park against a weak Brewers team. Burnett has a 3.36 SIERA and 22.7% strikeout rate on the year. He hasn’t pitched great in his last two outings, but did pick up the win both times and should bounce back in this one. The Brewers have a 0.298 wOBA and 21.6% strikeout rate vs. RHP. Burnett may not have Sale’s upside, but he’s a strong play and comes nearly $2k cheaper, making him a nice GPP option or SP2 if you wan to pay up for pitching.

Lance McCullers (DK – $7400, FD – $6700) – Hopefully you took my advice and played McCullers his last time out against the Orioles, as he racked up 44.4 Draftkings points on a complete game. McCullers, in his first 4 starts, has a 2.7 SIERA, 1.0 WHIP, and 29.6% strikeout rate. Those numbers are inflated by his last time out, but he was still pitching well before that. The White Sox have a 0.301 wOBA and 19.0% strikeout rate vs. RHP, and also average 3.69 pitches per plate appearance, which is 28th in baseball and should help McCullers go deep into this game as well. There is still some risk here, but McCullers makes a great play at his cheap price.

Top Hitting Options

Freddie Freeman 1B (DK – $4800, FD – $3900) – Freeman is a favorite cash game play of mine, as he offers consistent production and is often on the cheaper side for first basemen. Freeman has a 0.406 wOBA and 0.253 ISO vs. RHP. Today, he gets a great matchup against Ian Kennedy, who allows a 0.427 wOBA vs. LHH. Kennedy has also had a penchant for giving up the long ball this year, allowing 2.4 HR/9, by far the worst of any pitcher on the day. Freeman is in a great spot and is one of the top 1B options on the day (along with Adrian Gonzalez).

Joc Pederson (DK – $4400, FD – $4000) – Joc against a weak righty is almost like shooting fish in a barrel these days. Joc has a 0.412 wOBA and 0.349 ISO vs. RHP. While Rubby de la Rosa has pitched better than his 5.09 ERA suggests, he still allows a 0.423 wOBA to LHH and 1.57 HR/9 on the year. Joc could very easily be that HR this outing.

Randal Grichuk OF (DK – $3900, FD – $2900) – Fthe second day in a row I’ll give you cheap exposure to Coors as Grichuk comes in below $4000 on Draftkings. He has been batting 5th for the Cards and has a 0.366 wOBA and 0.269 ISO vs. RHP. Hale, recently recalled by the Rockies, allows a 0.362 wOBA to RHH and could be in for a rough night against the Cards.

Cameron Maybin OF (DK – $3300, FD – $3200) – Maybin has a 0.358 wOBA vs. RHP and gets a weak righty in Ian Kennedy, who allows a 0.364 wOBA to RHH. For someone batting at the top of the order and priced at $3300 on Draftkings, Maybin is a nice value play.
