Injury Alert! Teddy Bridgewater out for season
The worst has come to pass for the Minnesota Vikings. Young QB Teddy Bridgewater is out for the season. During practice, Bridgewater grabbed his knee on and fell to the ground. It was a non contact injury. Practice was cancelled as other players threw helmets in frustration. He was eventually taken out by an ambulance. Further testing showed that he dislocated his knee and full tore his ACL.
Bridgewater had a great preseason, going 18 for 23 (78.3) 253 yards and 2 TD’s with no interceptions. The Vikings had been building the team up around him, providing him the tools to succeed in the NFL. The Vikings had drafted WR Laquan Treadwell in the first round as a playmaker and to help open up more options for Bridgewater. Last year, Bridgewater started all 16 games but only threw 14 TD’s. With RB Adrian Peterson on field, the Vikings where the most run heavy offenses in the league, and look to continue that trend with Bridgewater out.
Shaun Hill and Joel Stave are the back up QB’s. Short of signing a veteran QB such as Mark Sanchez or Zach Mettenberger, Shaun Hill looks to be the starter. While Bridgewater was never a high end fantasy QB, you really want to stay away from the Vikings QB situation. Last year they threw the ball the least among all NFL teams, an average of 28 times a game. With a back up QB taking over, look to see a dip in production from the receiving corp. Hill’s biggest job will be to protect the ball and manage the game. However, Peterson will be relied upon more then ever to get his team to the post season.
In the meantime, lets hope for a speedy and healthy return of Bridgewater for the 2017 season.
