Fantasy Football Cut’em or Keep’em: Week 5

Until week 4, the majority of fantasy owners had not worried about their early picks. After Todd Gurley‘s combined 98 yards through two weeks? “Eh he’ll figure it out” was a common catch-phrase used by his owners. Now after having four consecutive weeks with under 3.3 YPC, his owners tend to say, “Hey, you interested in Todd Gurley”. If he continues in this slump in the coming games, don’t be surprised if he ends up in this column.

Initially, this weekly article only included bench players. I mean who would cut a starter after a two-week struggle? Now, in the words of Michael Lawrence, “Sh*t just got real.” At this point, if a player has sucked, no matter where you drafted him, it may be time to let him go.

Cut’em or Keep’em Week 5

Coby Fleener, (NO) 85.1% owned

I find it hilarious that every year, a Saints TE gets over hyped. Last year it was Josh Hill, who had 48 points the entire season. With that said, Fleener is much more talented than Hill. Even with the talent, he has been unable to produce fantasy wise so far. There are too many mouths to feed in New Orleans, and Fleener is way down on the totem pole. There are loads of breakout TEs this year, and do yourself a favor by picking one up instead of keeping Fleener. Verdict: Cut

Antonio Gates, (SD) 63.2% owned

Don’t you miss the days of clear-cut, elite tight ends? Gone are the days of Vernon Davis in San Fran, Jimmy Graham scoring 11 TDs for the Saints, Antonio Gates being a sure-fire start, or even Rob Gronkowski playing 16 games in a season. In Antonio Gates’ absence, rookie Hunter Henry has shown he can play. If I were Mike McCoy, I would keep Henry as the starter even when Gates is healthy. The Arkansas alum has had PFF grade of 71.3, good for 15th among TEs, while Gates has a putrid score of 44.3. The Gates era is done.  Verdict: Cut

Eli Manning, (NYG) 87.2% owned

How has this guy won two Superbowls?!? For sure he is has been a good QB but Eli is just the exact Peyton! One makes stupid decisions and throws the ball down the field, and the other is the smartest QB to live and can’t throw the ball down the field. Anyways, Manning has continued his streak of being an interception machine (four through four games) and shows no signs of improvement. The Giants’ QB has not scored of 15 points twice, which is something only Trevor Siemian, Blaine Gabbert, Russell Wilson, and Ryan Fitzpatrick have not done so far this year.  Verdict: Cut

Chris Ivory, (JAX) 69.4% owned

An RBBC where Ivory is averaging 2.2 YPC? I’m good, thanks. Verdict: Cut

Duke Johnson Jr., (CLE) 71.3% owned

Isaiah Crowell is a beast, there is no denying that. But Duke Johnson has still been relativity efficient this year. He is on pace for 1,100 yards from scrimmage, and if given a few more carries a game those numbers can sky-rocket. He’s getting a decent amount of touches each week and just needs a little more volume to be a RB3/4 option. Verdict:  Keep
