Top Plays
Max Scherzer
If you’re playing the early slate, Scherzer is the clear top option. He’ll face the Phillies and is the biggest favorite on the slate. He’s priced up, so there is merit to fading him to fit in Coors bats in tournaments, but I won’t be fading him in cash games.
Francisco Liriano
The late slate is ugly for pitching. There should be plenty of runs scored. Liriano comes in with the most strikeout upside of any pitcher on the late slate. Some of the Rays’ top hitters are left handed, so Liriano will have an advantage there. It’s always scary to start Liriano as your SP1, but on a night like tonight, he projects significantly higher than other pitchers on the slate.
Nolan Arenado/Trevor Story
Hyun-Jin Ryu is one of my favorite pitchers in baseball, but in Coors Field, he should give up a ton of runs. Arenado and Story have serious power and will have the platoon advantage in a great ball park for offense. The Rockies have a run total of 5.5 so getting exposure to this game is important.
Justin Turner
The Dodgers are in an interesting position. They have a run total of 6, but are facing a lefty in Kyle Freeland. Most of my favorite Dodgers targets are left handed (Seager, Gonzalez, Pederson), so it’s hard to pay up for them. The good news is Freeland may only last a few innings so I still think the lefties are in play. Justin Turner is my favorite target on the Dodgers side because he will have the platoon advantage against Freeland and still hits righties well if Freeland is lifted early.
Anthony Rizzo
Rizzo will face Jimmy Nelson in Miller Park. Nelson’s HR/9 has climbed each of the last three seasons (.78, .91, 1.25). This may be somewhat flawed due to his HR/FB ratio during the same time frame, but it’s concerning either way. Additionally Nelson’s xFix and K/BB ratio have gotten worse over the same time period. All of this is a statistical way of saying I think the Cubs score quite a few runs against the Brewers tonight and the Cubs team total agrees. A lefty power hitter like Rizzo who can also take walks has a great shot producing enough fantasy points to pay off his high salary.
Mike Moustakas
Moustakas has been batting second and will face Mike Fiers tonight. This is really about the price, as there are 33 third baseman who are priced higher than Moustakas on DraftKings.
Notes
The best punt plays may come from cheaper players in the Coors field game. Make sure to check the starting lineups before setting your DFS lineup.
Just keep playing A.J. Pollock until his price catches up to his talent.
I love Brian Dozier against Derek Holland if he leads off.

Depending where they hit in the order, Matt Joyce and Jarrod Dyson look like solid punt plays.
