Top Plays

Justin Verlander/Chris Sale (Early Slate)

Verlander and Sale are the top options on the early slate and both project similarly at this point. Sale is priced higher, so the edge is currently with Verlander, however lineups may swing this either way.

Houston/Seattle Bats (Early Slate)

Houston and Seattle bats are way too cheap on the early slate. James Paxton and Charlie Morton are facing off, and I’ll be loading up on hitters from this game, especially the Astros. Paxton is a fine pitcher, but I’ve currently built a lineup with five Astros, Pineda and Verlander, and I love the upside, especially in GPPs.

Related Articles

Jon Lester

Lester is my favorite pitcher on the late slate. He’ll face the Dodgers who are traveling from Coors field. I’m a believer in the post-Coors let down game. I’m not sure if it’s quantifiable or what the exact cause is, but hitters seem fatigued after playing a few days in altitude. Additionally, Lester will enjoy the platoon advantage against some of the Dodgers most dangerous hitters (Corey Seager, Adrian Gonzalez, and Joc Pederson). The only trick will be fitting Coors bats and Lester into your lineups.

Coors Field

We get a big treat for the late slate as the Rockies will face Jarrod Cosart and the Padres. The obvious plays are Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez, Nolan Arenado, and Trevor Story. On the Padres side, Wil Meyers will likely have the highest projection, but is the most expensive hitter on DraftKings. Batting order will determine if there are any value plays from this game.

Starling Marte/Andrew McCutchen

The Pirates will face Brandon Finnegan and the Reds. Both Marte and McCutchen will have the platoon advantage and Finnegan gives up 1.61 HR/9 in his career to right handed bats.

Notes

Even though Michael Pineda gave up some runs in his last matchup, he’s priced low enough to gamble on again.

Paul Goldschmidt and A.J. Pollock also join the list of way too cheap!

My favorite under-the-radar stack is the Mets bats against Jerad Eickhoff. Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, Lucas Duda, and Jay Bruce are all in consideration.

Tyler Glasnow is the early leader to be my SP2 on DraftKings.
