Top Plays

John Lackey

Lackey will face off against the strikeout-prone Brewers in Wrigley Field. We’ll have to watch the wind in Wrigley, but on paper, this is a solid matchup. The Brewers bats, especially Eric Thames, were hot against the Reds this weekend, but Lackey is far more talented than any of the Reds starting pitchers.

Danny Salazar

Salazar is a solid tournament pivot from Lackey and may even be a better overall play once we see weather and lineups. Salazar comes with strikeout upside built in, but the Twins are in the bottom third in strikeout percentage this year.

Related Articles

Brandon McCarthy

I love Dodgers pitchers mostly due to the ballpark and Yasmani Grandal. The Diamondbacks take a huge park hit when they play in Dodger Stadium compared to their home ballpark, Chase Field. McCarthy currently has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart) on the slate, and if he can get through six innings, he has a great shot to hit value.

Freddie Freeman

Freeman will face off against Jerad Weaver today. I love targeting players against Weaver because he gives up a high HR/9. Last season he gave up 1.87 HR/9 and this year (small sample) he’s given up 3.27 HR/9. He also has a very low strikeout rate (13.5% in 2015, 13.4% in 2016). Because of this, I expect Freddie Freeman to put the ball in play with a solid chance of knocking one out of the park.

Chris Carter

If he’s in the lineup, Chris Carter is my favorite GPP play of the day. He’ll face a weak lefty in Derek Holland and has the highest home run projection on the slate.

Dansby Swanson

Again, I’ll pick on Weaver by plugging Swanson into my lineups. Swanson is simply too cheap at a position where I’m not excited to pay up. I’m always trying to save at catcher and shortstop, so when I get a guy like Swanson in a good matchup, hitting at the top of the order, I lock him into my cash game lineups.

Robinson Cano

Cano is my favorite second base play. He’ll have the platoon advantage against Tom Koehler, and the Mariners project to exceed their Vegas team total. Cano is a solid cash game guy because he rarely leaves you with a zero. In a good matchup, I think he has one of the best floor/ceiling combinations on the slate.

Houston Astros Bats

I love the Astros again today, but have found it difficult to predict big games from them. My favorite Astros today are Evan Gattis, George Springer, and Jose Altuve. I haven’t decided whether they will be in my cash game lineup, but they have a solid projection today against Jesse Chavez.

Notes

Lance Lynn is the early favorite to be my SP2 on DraftKings.

Mike Trout will likely make my lineup again, facing Charlie Morton in Houston.

Matt Holiday is interesting for the same reasons I like Chris Carter today.

Many factors can change between the time I write this article and the time lineups lock. I’ll do my best to update the article, so checking back frequently is encouraged. You can also ask questions on Twitter @fantasbeast15. I’ll do my best to get to all of them!
