Top Plays
Michael Pineda (Early Slate)
Pineda will travel to the National League and will face the Pirates in PNC Park. Even though the Pirates don’t strike out very often, pitching against Jameson Taillon instead of a DH should improve Pineda’s strikeout upside. Pineda also has the second lowest OTT on the slate (see pitcher chart), only behind Jake Arrieta.
Carlos Carrasco
Carrasco is the top pitcher on the main slate. Corey Kluber just threw a complete game shutout against the White Sox, and now Carrasco gets his shot. The White Sox are 28th in WRC+ against righties this year and strike out 24.7% of the time, tied for sixth worst in the majors.
Lance Lynn
Lynn faces the Brewers in Miller Park, but is only $6,000 on DraftKings. The Brewers are a team I’ve picked on a lot this year due to their high strikeout rate (25.8% against righties). Milwaukee has done most of their damage via the home run ball, but Lynn has given up just 0.69 HR/9 throughout his career. I like Lynn as a solid SP2 on DraftKings.
Giancarlo Stanton
Stanton is priced at only $4,500 on DraftKings and he’s facing Jerad Weaver!!! Weaver gives up a ton of home runs and doesn’t strike out a lot of batters. This is the perfect recipe for a monster Stanton home run.
Coors Field
If you are playing the main slate, you can fit in a lot of Coors bats if you choose Carrasco and Lynn as your starters. Most of my Coors exposure will come from the Giants side, as they face the weaker pitcher. My favorite Rockies hitter is Nolan Arenado, but I’m not sure if I’ll have him in cash games. Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, and Brandon Crawford are my favorite Giants from this game, while Aaron Hill could be a fantastic play if he gets a good lineup spot.
Jedd Gyorko
Gyorko is an upside play against Chase Anderson in Miller Park. Anderson gives up a lot of home runs, and righties hit him very well. Gyorko has power upside and can fit in your lineup at second or third on DraftKings. He’s close to cash game consideration, but at worst, I’ll have GPP exposure to him.
Notes
Mike Moustakas is the reason I may not pay up for Arenado. His price is just too good to pass up.
Many factors can change between the time I write this article and the time lineups lock. I’ll do my best to update the article, so checking back frequently is encouraged. You can also ask questions on Twitter @fantasbeast15. I’ll do my best to get to all of them!
