Top Plays
Max Scherzer
Scherzer gets a tough matchup against an Orioles team who’s strikeout rate against righties is 8th best in the league. It’s a tough park, and the Orioles have the 14th best wRC+ against righties. The reason Scherzer is in play is because of his talent, and the fact that he’s priced at just $11,800 on DraftKings. Scherzer may not have his best outing, but at his price, he’s still a fantastic play.
Drew Pomeranz
Pomeranz will face the Brewers in Miller Park. Ryan Braun might be back in the lineup, but if he isn’t Pomeranz becomes my favorite GPP play and may even be in my cash lineup. The Brewers strike out 26.2% of the time against lefties, third worst in the league. They have a high wRC+, which is why this may be a better GPP play than cash, but with the exception of Braun, most of the Brewers power comes from the left side of the plate.
Charlie Morton
Morton has pitched incredibly well over his last two starts. His strikeout percentage is almost ten points higher than his career average. While the Braves are not the easiest matchup for right handers, Morton is still very cheap. This matchup didn’t stand out to me right away, but when I saw Vegas had Morton as the biggest favorite of the day, it got my attention. Morton also has an OTT of just 3.5 runs, meaning he should be able to limit scoring enough to make him a solid play for the price.
Coors Bats
Due to the postponed game yesterday, some DFS players were burned by Coors exposure. New players will remember this and will likely avoid Coors if there are any weather concerns in the near future. Because of this, a full Coors stack is certainly viable for tournaments, but today, I’m only interested in Kris Bryant and Addison Russell in cash games. Obviously, batting order can change this approach, so watch closely when lineups come out in case their is another value bat that comes from this game.
Rays Lefties
Chris Young will face the Rays today and all of the Rays lefties are too cheap. Corey Dickerson is my favorite play from this game, while Brad Miller and Logan Morrison make great semi-punts at their positions. Although it’s a small sample, last season Young gave up 4.14 HR/9 to left handed batters. I’m not using this stat as my reason to play Rays, but it is reassuring. Young is one of the weakest pitchers on the slate, and gives up plenty of fly balls which should lead to some home runs for these hitters.
Bryce Harper
One of the reasons I’m not loading up on Coors tonight is I want to fit Harper into my lineups. He’s facing Ubaldo Jimenez in Camden Yards. The Nationals have one of the highest run totals on the slate, and Harper has the second highest raw projection only behind Kris Bryant. Bryant and Harper will be the first two hitters in my lineup, and I’ll fill in the rest of my team from there.
