MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 5/18/2017

The pitcher chart is located under my top plays!
Top Plays
Julio Teheran
I’m not a big fan of the park, but Teheran is very solid against righties. The Blue Jays have a lineup full of righties, so Teheran should project well against them. The Blue Jays have the sixth worst wRC+ against righties this year, so even though it’s a tough park, I think Teheran will be able to keep the Blue Jays lineup in check.
Hyun-Jin Ryu
Ryu is priced slightly higher than I’d like, so this is most likely a solid GPP option. Ryu has a 23.6% strikeout percentage and will face a team full of lefties. If he can go deep in this game, he’ll have a great chance at a win, and he’s the second largest favorite on the day.
Jon Lester
Lester is one of the top options of the day, but only if the weather cooperates. The last two days, the wind has been blowing out in Wrigley Field. If it’s blowing out again, I’ll like Lester a lot less, and probably won’t pay up for him. If we get a neutral wind, he’ll be a top option. I realize Billy Hamilton and Jose Peraza could run wild against Lester, but they have to get on base first.
Cubs Bats
It’s a day to load up on Cubs one more time. The wind right now is blowing across the field, but any shift so it’s blowing out will be huge for Cubs bats. Even without the shift, they are a great play against Amir Garrett. Garrett projects for the fewest innings pitched of all the starters on the slate, so the Cubs could face the weak Reds bullpen as well. Ranking the Cubs, I like Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber, Ian Happ, Ben Zobrist and Addison Russell.
J. D. Martinez
Martinez has been on fire lately and his price has been slow to catch up. The Tigers have a team run total of five against Dylan Bundy and Martinez should be a big part of that total. Bundy isn’t a bad pitcher, but Vegas really likes the Tigers today. Martinez is cheap for his talent and has multi-home run upside. I also like a Tigers stack for GPPs.
Bryce Harper/Trea Turner
The Nationals will face Tyler Glasnow in PNC Park. I don’t love the park, but the matchup is solid, as Glasnow is walking a lot of batters, and giving up some home runs. His SIERA is 5.06 which means he’s pitching better than his ERA, but still not pitching well. I expect both Harper and Turner to take advantage of Glasnow’s struggles and score enough fantasy points to pay off their relatively high salaries.
Notes
The Texas Rangers have a team run total of 5.5, but I’m having a hard time finding spots to play Rangers in my lineups.
Watching the weather and keeping an eye on wind has been key to winning the past few nights. It will likely be the same on Thursday.
The pitching chart will be updated often. Make sure to check back for the newest information, especially if a column is currently incomplete!
