MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 5/21/2017
Last Updated: 5/21/2017 – 8:46 AM CT
The pitcher chart is located under my top plays!
Top Plays
Jake Arrieta
Arrieta will face the Brewers and is a bit too cheap at just $9,400 on DraftKings. The Brewers have dropped their strikeout rate a bit, but are still third worst in the league at 24.2%. Their wRC+ has fallen to 15th in the league, so I like the matchup for Arrieta. He’s the biggest favorite on the slate, and if the wind cooperates, he’ll be my favorite pitcher on Sunday.
Chris Archer
Archer will face the Yankees in Tropicana Field. He owns a 26.9% strikeout percentage this year, and the Yankees have the 10th worst strikeout rate against righties. Unfortunately, the Yankees have the highest wRC+ against righties, making Archer a risky option. The park downgrade for the Yankees could be enough to hold some would-be home runs, and Archer has one of the lowest OTTs (see pitcher chart). If he can prevent some runs, he has as much upside as anyone on the slate.
Cubs Bats
It’s another day where I’m recommending Cubs bats for DFS. The wind is blowing out to right field, making Arrieta a riskier play, but making the Cubs bats fantastic plays. They’ll face Chase Anderson who’s HR/FB% is just 3.8%. His career average is 12.3%, meaning regression is coming, and I think it start today. Anthony Rizzo is my favorite play on the slate with Kyle Schwarber a close second. I’ll also have exposure to Kris Bryant and Ian Happ in both cash games and tournaments.
Trea Turner
Turner will face lefty, Jaime Garcia in SunTrust Park. The Nationals have a team run total of 4.5, and it seems low to me. Turner has been priced up most of the season, and it has been difficult to play him. He’s currently priced at $4,600, which is still high, but playable. He’ll have the platoon advantage against Jaime Garcia who has a 5.48 SIERA this season and has seen his strikeout percentage drop to 14.2%.
Tommy Pham
Pham has been productive in the month of May and will face Matt Cain at home. If he hits near the top of the order, he’s one of my favorite plays under $4,000. He has a bit of power and speed, which is especially desirable for Arcade Mode (this game isn’t included in Arcade Mode today, but keep it in mind going forward) and will face a pitcher who doesn’t strike out a ton of batters, and has a 5.07 SIERA. The Cardinals have a team run total of 4.5, and Pham should be right in the middle of the production.
