MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 7/19/2017

Last Updated: 7/19/2017 – 9:21 AM CT

The pitcher chart is located under my top plays!

Top Plays

Carlos Carrasco

Carrasco is the most expensive pitcher on the early slate, but I won’t pay up for him in cash games. In tournaments, I think he’s a great play. He’ll travel into the National League and face a Giants team with the second worst wRC+ against righties. The Giants have a 19.6% strikeout rate, so some of Carrasco’s upside is capped, but he still has the most upside of any pitcher on the early slate. Due to his high price, and the fact that there is a Coors game on the slate, he won’t make my cash game lineup, but I like him for tournaments.

Jacob deGrom

On the night slate, deGrom is the top option. He’ll face the Cardinals in Citi Field. The Cardinals aren’t the easiest matchup, but I like the ballpark and deGrom is the most talented pitcher on the main slate. I’m likely locking in deGrom on DraftKings as my SP1 mostly because all the other top options are in worse matchups or worse parks.

Sonny Gray

Gray is my favorite pitcher on the early slate. He’s been solid this season, flashing some upside as well. The Rays allow Gray to demonstrate that upside, striking out at the 4th highest rate against righties. The downside to this matchup is the Rays have the 3rd highest wRC+ against righties, but Gray has been quite good in July with a 1.50 ERA, following up a 2.92 ERA in June. ERA isn’t necessarily predictive, but it is reassuring to see your pitcher consistently pitching well.

Coors Bats

On the early slate, I’m avoiding Carrasco in cash games, so I’ll have some salary to spend. I’m first going to use it to lock in Nolan Arenado. He’ll have the platoon advantage against Clayton Richard and is the top hitter on the day. Wil Myers and Carlos Gonzalez are both too cheap. They’ve both been cold lately, but last night’s performances were encouraging. If Hector Sanchez hits in the top 6, I’m locking him in at the catcher position for just $3,200. Finally, I like Manuel Margot in the outfield if he’s batting first.

J.D. Martinez

If Martinez is in the lineup tonight, I’m excited to use him. I’m not sure where he’ll bat in the order, but you have to assume it will be 5th or higher. For $4,400, I love his matchup against Tim Adleman in a small ballpark. Until his price is adjusted, I’ll be playing a lot of Martinez over the next few weeks, especially when he’s hitting in Chase Field. This signing also improves the prospects of the entire Diamondbacks lineup. There will be more runs driven in, and the order could be turned over more often.

Rangers Bats

The Rangers are the top offense on the main slate. They’ll face Kevin Gausman in Camden Yards. It’s a good ballpark for power, and Gausman has struggled, allowing 1.60 HR/9 this season. The Rangers have a 5.5 team run total today, highest on the main slate. I like stacking the Rangers in tournaments, and will use a few in cash games. Shin-Soo Choo and Robinson Chirinos are my favorite Rangers, but Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor are also in consideration for cash games.
