MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 8/31/2017

The pitcher chart is located under my top plays!
Top Plays
Madison Bumgarner
Bumgarner faces the Cardinals in AT&T Park. He has the lowest OTT on the slate even though the Cardinals have the 9th highest wRC+ against lefties. The Cardinals are a fairly average matchup, striking out 21.1% of the time against lefties, but with other aces in worse parks, Bumgarner is the top option of the day. I like Bumgarner’s safety for cash games, but may chase more strikeouts in tournaments.
Gio Gonzalez
Gonzalez is one of the options who provides plenty of strikeout upside. He’ll face the Brewers in Miller Park. The Brewers strike out 26.5% of the time against lefties, highest rate in the league. While the park isn’t great for Gonzalez, the Brewers rank just 20th in wRC+ against lefties. I don’t love the price in cash games, but Gonzalez is a fantastic pivot from Bumgarner in tournaments.
Blue Jays
The Blue Jays will face Jeremy Hellickson in Camden Yards. There is a good chance I’ll have five Blue Jays bats in my cash games lineup on the main slate. Hellickson struggles to prevent home runs, and the Blue Jays bats are priced very reasonably. The Blue Jays have a team run total of five, and there are multiple ways to stack them in tournaments. The top play from this team is Justin Smoak, but you could also go with Kendrys Morales at first base for $1,200 cheaper on DraftKings. Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista are near locks while almost the entire Blue Jays lineup is in consideration, depending where they hit in the order.
Dodgers Bats
On a short slate like the early slate, sometimes you have to make plays that you usually would avoid. That is what I’ll be doing with the Dodgers bats today. I don’t like to pick on Zach Greinke, but I won’t be pitching him on the early slate, and currently have four Dodgers in my cash game lineup. The Dodgers prices are very reasonable, and they get a huge park upgrade hitting in Chase Field. In both cash games and tournaments, I’ll be loading up on cheap Dodgers bats on the four game early slate.
Notes
At scarce positions, Tim Beckham and Jonathan Scoop provide power upside against Marco Estrada. Both are priced up, but both are solid cash game and tournament options.
Ryan Braun is $3,400 facing a lefty. He’s been cold, and Gio Gonzalez doesn’t give up a ton of home runs, but for his price, he’s a fantastic tournament play.
On the early slate, the Mets are in a good spot as well. I currently have seven of my eight bats coming from either the Dodgers or the Mets.
The pitching chart will be updated often. Make sure to check back for the newest information, especially if a column is currently incomplete!
