Fantasy Football: Week 8 Top Waiver Wire Adds

Quarterbacks

Josh McCown (NYJ) 12%

Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire

I’ve been holding out on putting him in my waiver wire column because I just wasn’t buying it. Well, it’s time to buy. After back to back weeks scoring 20-plus fantasy points, depending on your scoring system, he needs to be owned in deeper leagues or for owners that like to stream. He gets a good matchup with the Falcons in Week 8.

Running Backs

Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire

Latavius Murray (MIN) 41%

Murray finally looked healthy in Week 7 getting 18 carries for 113 yards and one touchdown. He also out-touched backfield mate Jerick McKinnon 18 to 17. He has a good matchup with the Browns in Week 8. The Browns are actually decent against the run season, but the Vikings should win this game fairly easily and Murray will be in clock kill mode in the fourth quarter.

Wendell Smallwood (WAS) 40%

I don’t have final stats for Smallwood because I’m writing this as I watch the game, but he has looked good on his seven carries. He gets the 49ers in Week 8, and that in itself is reason enough to add him.

Wide Receivers

Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire

Kenny Stills (MIA) 22%

Stills is finally starting to show the promise he had shown early in his career when he was with the Saints. This is the guy the Dolphins thought they were getting when they traded for Stills a few years ago. He has scored three TDs over the last two weeks, and he seems to be “QB proof” with Jay Cutler and Matt Moore both throwing touchdowns to him. He gets the Ravens on Thursday night.

JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT) 14%

Smith-Schuster has thoroughly outplayed WR Maratavis Byrant for most of the season so far, and it’s time to drop Byrant for Smith-Schuster. He isn’t getting the volume of targets you would like to see from your WR, but if he continues to play well, he could be usable down the stretch.

Tight Ends

Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire

Jared Cook (OAK) 40%

After three straight weeks of mediocre fantasy production, Cook burst back onto the tight end streaming radar with a huge game against the Chiefs, and it would have been better if he was not ruled out at the one-yard-line on the game-winning drive.

O.J. Howard (TB) 13%

Howard finally showed the promise and potential he had as the No.1 tight end in this year’s draft. He caught all six of his targets for 98 yards and two touchdowns. He will be hard to trust on a week-to-week basis with Cameron Brate still a big part of the offense, but he is worth adding in case that game ends up being his coming out party.

Defense

Miami Dolphins @ BAL

The Ravens offense is terrible and the Miami Dolphins defense has been pretty good, at least from a fantasy perspective, over the last three weeks. Offensives tend to struggle on Thursday nights due to the lack of practice time, so that benefits the Dolphins defense.
