Fantasy Football Week 15 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Depending on your fantasy football league does it, using Week 17 or not, it’s either the first week of the playoffs or playoff semifinal week. Either way streaming can still be a useful strategy, if you have fringe starters facing a tough matchup.

So here are my Week 15 streamers at quarterback, tight end and team defense.

Quarterback: Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans

Bortles threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14, while completing two-thirds of his passes without an interception. He has multiple passing touchdowns in back-to-back games, and six total touchdowns with just one interception over his last three games.

Bortles favorable season-ending stretch continues in Week 15. The Houston Texans have allowed 18.8 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks (tied for third-most in the league, ESPN scoring), with multiple passing touchdowns or over 300 yards allowed through the air in five of their last seven games (both three times in that span).

Bortles past ineptitude explains his low ownership rates. But he’s looking like a potential league-winning fantasy quarterback, with a big opportunity for owners that just lost Carson Wentz to stream him in Week 15.

Others To Consider: Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers at Carolina Panthers (check status and availability); Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers vs. Tennessee Titans; Trevor Siemian, Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts (Thursday night), Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns; Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Atlanta Falcons (Monday night)

Tight End: David Njoku, Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens

Njoku has four touchdowns on 29 receptions so far in his rookie season, but he also three or fewer catches in 11 of 13 games. But the two games with more than three catches came in Week 12 and Week 13, with 26.1 PPR fantasy points and a touchdown over that span.

Njoku caught his first career touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens back in Week 2, and he’ll get a rematch in Week 15. Over their last two games the Ravens have allowed 21 receptions to opposing tight ends, a group that includes Jessie James, Vance McDonald, Eric Ebron and Darren Fells. Njoku is a least on-par with those guys talent-wise, and DeShone Kizer could look his way often as a safety valve with memories of his four turnover Week 2 game against Baltimore in mind.

Njoku would only need another touchdown against the Ravens to pay off a fantasy streamer for Week 15. But he’s also in line for target volume, which further emboldens my recommendation.

Team Defense: New Orleans Saints at New York Jets

The Saints’ defense needed a run of interceptions by Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in Week 14 to deliver double-digit fantasy points for the first time in four weeks. But they have faced a run of pretty good offenses and capable quarterbacks since mid-November, and that will take a turn to the favorable side in Week 15.

With Josh McCown (broken hand) out for the season, Bryce Petty will step in under center for the New York Jets. He went 2-for-9 after replacing McCown last week, and in four games of extended action last season Petty threw six interceptions in 128 pass attempts.

New Orleans had multiple sacks in six straight games before last week, and they’ve still allowed 21 points or less in five of their last seven games. The Jets’ offense will not pose much of a challenge, with Petty or perhaps Christian Hackenberg at quarterback, so the Saints get a nice respite with great fantasy upside in Week 15.
