Top 5 Reasons The Philadelphia Eagles Should Repeat
1: They already had the NFL’s best defensive line, and somehow managed to make it even better by adding 3 time Pro Bowl DE Michael Bennet via a trade with The Seahawks, and by inking 5 time Pro Bowl DT Haloti Ngata to a one year deal. The Eagles defensive line now features a ferocious combination of DE Chris Long, DT Fletcher Cox, DE Brandon Graham, DT Tim Jernigan, DE Dereck Barnett, DE Vinny Curry (If not traded or cut )DE Michael Bennet, and DT Haloti Ngata, and they’re not done yet.
No team actually wants to face their defensive line. Their secondary has improved as well with the addition of CB Daryl Worley, and the linebacking core is impressive with recently resigned LB Nigel Bradham and MLB Jordan Hicks (who’s recovering well) leading the way. Don’t sleep on recently acquired LB Charles Woodley as well. They arguably have the best defense in the NFL. Not to mention They have one of the NFL’s best safety tandems with FS Malcolm Jenkins and SS Rodney McCloud.
2: The rest of their division is not ready to compete at the same level that The Eagles currently are. They have an elite football team on both sides of the ball and a great coaching staff. The Dallas Cowboys are horrendous and have made limited moves to improve thus far in free agency, The New York Giants are basically rebuilding, and The Redskins are an average football team at the moment. The Redskins got better at QB after they traded for QB Alex Smith, but they have very little around him and he has to face The Eagles (unfairly improved) Dline.
3: They have the best Offense in the NFC and possibly in the entire NFL. They obviously have the best Quarterback room in the league With MVP Candidate QB Carson Wentz expected to be back healthy for the start of the season, and Super Bowl MVP QB Nick Foles backing him up. They have two top 5 NFL WRs in Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor, and a budding star in WR Mack Hollins. They have a top 2 NFL TE in Zach Ertz. ( He’s arguably second only to Gronkowski), They have a very talented RB tandem with Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement, and most importantly they have the best offensive line in the NFC if not the entire NFL with LT Jason Peters returning, Center Jason Kelce, RT Lane Johnson, RG Steven Wisinski, and LG Brandon Brooks with talented OL Big V backing everyone up. Almost every player that I’ve mentioned on both sides of the ball has reached the Pro Bowl multiple times, and they’re all Super Bowl Champions.
4: They have a gutsy offensive mastermind as their Head Coach in Doug Pederson and a defensive coordinator in Jim Swartz that arguably form the best coaching tandem in the league. Swartz has this Eagles defense playing to hunt opposing QBs and Pederson is a brilliant play caller on offense who is not afraid to go for it on 4th and short nearly every game. Philly Special anyone?
5: The Philadelphia Eagles are extremely confident and rightfully so. They know that they have a special team in Philadelphia and the main core is locked up through 2021. They have 20 of 22 starters returning from last year and are not done adding talent on both sides of the ball as of yet.
Expect GM wizard Howie Roseman to continue to add star power to this roster via free agency, trades, and by selecting the best player available with each draft pick they have heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. With few holes on the roster, this team has that luxury. This team has the best overall roster from top to bottom in the NFL and should be even better than they were last year. While nothing is guaranteed in the NFL The Philadelphia Eagles have a great chance of repeating by winning Super Bowl 53 in February 2019. At worst, this team should certainly be in constant Super Bowl contention for the next three to five years if not longer.
