Carlos Carrasco

If you’re paying up for pitching on Monday, Carrasco is the top option. He’ll face the Tigers in Comerica Park. Carrasco is the biggest favorite on the slate and has the lowest OTT (see pitcher chart). The Tigers rank 25th in strikeout rate this year, so his upside may be a bit limited, but has safety for cash games. I haven’t decided whether to pay $12,200 for Carrasco on DraftKings, but he’s certainly in consideration on FanDuel where pricing is softer.

Joey Lucchesi

Lucchesi will face the Rockies who are taking a big park hit traveling to Petco Park. The Rockies have the fifth highest strikeout rate against lefties this year at 25.9%. They also rank second to last in wRC+. With an OTT of 3.5 and a price tag of just $8,100, Lucchesi is one of my favorite pitching options on the slate.

Junior Guerra

Guerra will face the Diamondbacks in Chase Field. The Diamondbacks have the third highest strikeout rate in the league at 25.7%. They’ve struggled against righties this season with the 6th lowest wRC+. With an OTT of four, Guerra has some upside at his $6,000 price tag. To reach cash game value, Guerra will need 15 points, a mark he’s hit in five of his six starts this year. I like Guerra for both cash games and tournaments.

Hitters

Brian Dozier

Dozier will face Wade LeBlanc in Target Field. The Twins have a team run total of 4.5, and Dozier has finally broken out of his slump. He was scuffling at the plate, but put together a good series against the Angels over the weekend. Even though LeBlanc is a reverse-splits pitcher, Dozier will have the platoon advantage and has the highest home run projection among second baseman. With Jose Altuve only $300 more, I don’t expect the ownership on Dozier to be too high, making him a solid cash and tournament play.

Red Sox Righties

The Red Sox have one of the highest team run totals on the board, and will face lefty Sean Manaea. Manaea threw a no-hitter against the Red Sox earlier this year, and I hope that performance keeps the ownership down on the Boston bats. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez are two of the top hitters on the slate, but I won’t have any Betts in cash games. He’s priced at $5,800, making him a tournament-only play for me. At $5,000, Martinez is a great cash game play and has the highest home run projection on the slate, making him worth a shot in tournaments as well. Hanley Ramirez and Eduardo Nunez are also in play for cash games at their prices, and the Red Sox are my favorite tournament stack.

Nelson Cruz

Cruz will face Jake Odorizzi in Target Field. Cruz has been frustrating to roster this season, but the price has been appealing all year. Odorizzi is a reverse-splits pitcher, so even though Cruz does not have the platoon advantage, it should work in his favor. Cruz has the second highest home run projection on the slate, so much like Martinez, he’s one of my top tournament targets and is currently in my cash game build because of his cheap $4,200 price tag.
