MLB DFS DraftKings GPP Lineup Advice: 7/23/18

A nice set of games are scheduled in the MLB Monday night for DFS. DraftKings posted big GPP contests, so let’s take them down!

Pitcher

Sean Newcomb (ATL): $8,200 @ MIA
There are two aces on the board to pay up for tonight in Luis Severino and Corey Kluber. However, each has risk at the inflated price. Sure, Severino has been dominant this year, but his strikeout rate is way down in his last three starts. The Rays have given good pitchers issues, so fading should pay off tonight. Kluber just simply hasn’t been able to get strikeouts this year to warrant the price tag. He still has the reputation as an elite pitcher which leads to an increased price tag.
At a discount, look at Sean Newcomb for salary relief and upside. The Braves starter is having a breakout season. With an above average K% and solid 3.51 ERA, Newcomb has shown a lot more control and stamina in games this year. The Marlins can be pesky, but Newcomb has the stuff to get the job done.

Zack Wheeler (NYM): $7,500 vs. SD
The Mets starter gets a fantastic matchup at home against the San Diego Padres. They own the second highest strikeout rate at 25.5% to go along with the third lowest ISO at .134. Wheeler is coming off a great start against the Nationals where he pitched 7.2 strong innings with seven K’s. In a much inferior opponent, Wheeler should take care of San Diego easily who on the tail end of an East coast road trip.

Hitting Stacks

Texas Rangers
Brett Anderson does not have a large 2018 MLB sample size thus far, however, in his limited 23.2 innings, he has struggled. With a 6.08 ERA, Anderson also owns a 3.04 BB/9 and .422 wOBA to righties. The Rangers are a team full of power. Although the right-handed hitters are in a better spot, do not count out the lefties. Anderson is struggling to strike anyone out, which gives a guy like Joey Gallo a massive bump.

New York Yankees
Hopefully going overlooked, are the Yankees. Gary Sanchez is back in the lineup making this lineup look so intimidating. Matt Andriese is simply not a good pitcher and will have issues keeping this powerhouse team at bay. The negative park shift will keep me off Didi Gregorius, but the usual suspects are all in play.

LA Angels
Stacking against Lucas Giolito has been a profitable strategy all season long and there is no reason to stop now. Now he has limited the earned runs allowed in the last two games (just two against KC and Houston through 13.2 innings), but the command has still been an issue. He has a 5.23 BB/9 in 2018! There will be plenty of RBI opportunities in this game throughout the lineup. Do not forget to include Shohei Ohtani who is appearing to get more and more healthy each day.
