MLB DFS DraftKings GPP Lineup Advice: Monday 8/13

We roll into tonight with a nice 10-game slate. There are plenty of pitchers in all price ranges to pay for, along with awful starters to stack against. There are seven pitchers to pay up for in the top-tier, all of whom should have a great outing. Depending on which hitters appeal to you most, will determine which pitcher will be rostered. Let’s focus on some of the best GPP winning options to look at for this evening.

Pitchers

Clayton Kershaw (LAD): $10,000 vs. SF
The top-tier pitching options are loaded. We can make a case for any of them. However, at a discount, Kershaw leads the way for me. Although he may not ever be the same dominant pitcher we have been so lucky to witness over the years, he is still very good and has the ability to shut down any MLB lineup. Tonight, Kershaw will take on the division rival Giants. San Fran own the third-lowest ISO to LHP since the beginning of July and will throw out a very unintimidating lineup. Kershaw has owned the Giants throughout his career as well as the season, where he has 13 strikeouts in 13 innings, allowing just two earned runs.

Mike Clevinger (CLE): $9,200 @ CIN
The Indians will start their inter-league series this evening against the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds have struggled to create offense recently and could be in for another tough matchup. The Indians starter will get strikeouts owning a 24.1% K rate this season and 27.2% over the last month. In a game against a National League team, the Reds will not have a DH, which should lead to more strikeouts. He is the seventh most expensive pitcher on the board and should go somewhat overlooked. Expecting 25+ DraftKings points in very realistic in a plus matchup for Clevinger.

Sean Reid-Foley (TOR): $4,400 @ KC
In his major-league debut, Sean Reid-Foley has a great matchup in a very pitcher-friendly ballpark. The Kansan City Royals are a bottom 10 team in nearly every hitting category. The Blue Jays prospect has been dominant to right-handed hitters in Triple-A which should limit the damage from Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez. At a near minimum price tag on DraftKings, Reid-Foley should easily pay off value and allow us the ability to afford the high-priced hitters. He is the top option among the low-priced starters tonight and should be considered in all formats.

Hitting Stacks

Arizona Diamondbacks
Although they will be popular, the Diamondbacks grade out as one of the best hitting stacks tonight. They face the famous Bartolo Colon and the terrible Rangers bullpen. In addition, Arizona will gain a DH as they travel to Arlington. After putting up nine runs yesterday against the Reds, they should be on everyone’s radar as the best stack of the night, with the highest implied run total.

Cleveland Indians
After everyone was touting Homer Bailey (including myself) last week, the Reds starter blew up in an easy matchup against the New York Mets. There was talk about a change in the release of his delivery which led to more strikeouts. He put together two fantastic starts and then let us down. Bailey owns a 1.91 HR/9 and 4.99 SIERA. With just a 14.7% K rate, he is not good at getting hitters out and should struggle against this surging Indians team.

St. Louis Cardinals
The Cards are in a great spot tonight against Tommy Milone. The Nationals starter had one amazing performance against the Mets where he struck out nine batters over seven innings. Watching the game and looking at his stuff, there was no reason to suggest he could sustain any kind of success in the MLB. The regression started immediately in his last start against the Braves. He allowed 10 hits against, seven earned runs, and three homers. The Cardinals have some big hitters at the top of the lineup, including one of the hottest hitters in the league, Matt Carpenter.
