MLB DFS Pitcher Article 8/16 (DK and FD)

In-depth analysis of the starting pitchers on Thursday, August 16, 2018 (8/16) MAIN SLATE to help you build winning cash game and tournament lineups on Draftkings and FanDuel.

TOP PLAYS

Man, Tonight’s slate is horrible on the pitching front. I’m going to give you a few who I think will do well.

Clay Buchholz (ARI) @ SD: 9.5DK, 8.6FD

Clay gets to face the Padres in Petco Park.  Over the past month, San Diego has a 25% k rate and a mediocre 145 iso. Clay has a 20% k rate vs lefties and a 22% k rate vs righties. When Clay struggles, he struggles with right-handed bats. But there simply isn’t a single batter in the Padres lineup that I’m scared of. While the price tag is high, I think he can get you at least 20 DK.

Sam Gaviglio (TOR) @ KC: 6.8DK, 7.2FD

Sam will be facing a Royals team that has a 21% k rate along with a 160 iso vs righties over the past 30 days. Sam has a 15% k rate vs lefties and a 27% k rate vs righties.  The Royals don’t have any left-handed hitters who I’m afraid of, so I think Sam should be able to have a good outing.

VALUE/PUNT OPTION

Francisco Liriano (DET) @ MIN: 5.8DK, 5.8FD

Francisco has the absolute best matchup on the slate facing a Twins team that is awful vs left-handed pitching. They have a 24% k rate and a little league like .069 iso.  Liriano is not good himself, however, he is cheap and has a respectable 23% k rate vs lefties and a 17% k rate vs righties. He has done a great job at limiting hard contact to both sides of the plate, holding batters below 33%. I prefer him on DK where there is no QS.
