MLB DFS Pitcher Article 8/22 (DK and FD)

In-depth analysis of the starting pitchers on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 (8/22) MAIN SLATE to help you build winning cash game and tournament lineups on Draftkings and FanDuel.

TOP PLAYS

Pitching on this late is concentrated towards the top of the price scale. I’m not a fan of anyone below 7.8DK. I will give you some of my favorite cash and tournament plays.

Noah Syndergaard (NYM) vs SF: 10.2DK, 9.8FD

Noah has the best matchup of the top 3 priced pitchers. He will be facing the Giants in Citi Field. They have a 24% K rate and a .112 ISO vs right-handed pitching. Thor has not been a slouch this season posting a 23% K rate vs lefties and a 27% K rate vs righties.  I would play Noah as my SP1 in cash games but is also in play in tournaments.

The following 2 pitchers are great tournament pivots from Thor.

Jack Flaherty (STL) @ LAD: 10.9 DK, 9.2FD

26% K vs Lefties, 34% K vs Righties, LAD 24% K, .230 ISO

Walker Buehler (LAD) vs STL: 10.4DK, 9.1FD

26% K vs Lefties, 27% K vs Righties, STL 21% K, .164 ISO

VALUE OPTIONS

Our value pitchers today aren’t priced below 7.8 DK, as I don’t like anyone below that.

Jon Lester (CHC) @ DET: 8.2DK, 7.7FD

I will preface this by saying that I absolutely can’t stand Jon Lester. I think he is an overrated pitcher. BUT… He has a great matchup, and he is coming off a 30 DK point game vs the Pirates. He will be facing the Tigers, who have a 21% K rate and a .119 ISO. Jon doesn’t boast strong K percentages as he has a 21% K vs lefties and an 18% K vs righties.

Lance Lynn (NYY) @ MIA: 8DK, 7.5FD

I could just write what I did yesterday for Tanaka. But Lance will be facing a Marlins team that has a 21% K rate and a measly .104 ISO vs righties. Lance is a reverse splits pitcher when it comes to his K percentage. He has a 16% K rate vs lefties and a 28% K rate vs righties. So obviously the more righties that are in the lineup, the more I like him. But either way, I’m confident that he will have a solid outing and get the Win and Quality Start.

Jon Gray (COL) vs SD: 7.8DK, 8.6FD

Jon is pitching at home, I know. But he is facing the Padres, who have a 25% K rate and a .153 ISO vs righties. This is definitely NOT a cash game play, but I love his upside for tournaments. He is sporting a 30% K rate vs lefties and a 25% K rate vs righties. If you pair with one of the 3 top priced pitchers in tournaments, that gives you a ton of K upside.  Jon is at least 1K too cheap based on his K percentages.
