Fantasy Football Week 5 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before I get into Week 5’s fantasy football quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers, let’s look at my picks for Week 4 (Yahoo! PPR scoring).

Quarterback: Andy Dalton-25.78 points
Tight End: Austin Hooper-2.9 points
Team Defense Detroit Lions-3 points

Looking forward to better results in Week 5, here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for the new week.

Blake Bortles, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs

Bortles had been typically up (two games over 375 yards) and down (331 yards total in the other two games) so far this year. But he’s coming off one of the highs, after going 29-for-38 for 388 yards with two touchdowns and an interception along with 28 rushing yards against the New York Jets in Week 4. Week 5 sets up favorably to make it two big games in a row.

The Kansas City Chiefs held Case Keenum to 245 yards with an interception in Week 4, but they’ve still allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks (24.5 per game; ESPN scoring) this year and they’re toward the bottom of the league against the pass by virtually all metrics.

The Jaguars’ defense could keep Patrick Mahomes relatively in check on Sunday, setting up a more conservative game script for the offense. But Jacksonville will be almost surely be without Leonard Fournette (hamstring) again, and Bortles has produced well in that situation over the last season-plus.

It’s another decent week for quarterback streamers, though not as deep as Week 4. Bortles could always deliver an unexpected dud, but the matchup is far too good and he has to be the top choice for Week 5.

Others to Consider: Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills; Derek Carr, Oakland Raider at Los Angeles Chargers; Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns; Alex Smith, Washington Redskins at New Orleans Saints (Monday night); Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans (Sunday night); Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals

Tight End: Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Atlanta Falcons

McDonald missed Week 1 with a foot injury, but since then he has five targets in each of the last three games. Over the last two games, highlighted by his viral stiff arm of Buccaneers safety Chris Conte in Week 3 on his way to a long touchdown, he has nine receptions for 174 yards. Over those same two games, McDonald has clearly jumped ahead of Jesse James (two targets over that span) as Pittsburgh’s No. 1 tight end.

The Atlanta Falcons are in the middle of the pack against tight ends so far this year (11.1 fantasy points per game; ESPN PPR scoring). But they’ve allowed at least four catches to an opponent’s No. 1 tight end in three of four games, and Tyler Eifert added a touchdown before being injured in Week 4.

The Steelers have gone pass-heavy without Le’Veon Bell, and that’s in line to continue for two more games if reports about his return during a Week 7 bye prove true. So McDonald has room to produce, and a banged-up Falcons defense isn’t going to offer a lot of resistance on Sunday.

Others To Consider: Austin Hooper, Atlanta Falcons at Pittsburgh Steelers; Ricky Seals-Jones, Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers; Tyler Kroft, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins

Team Defense: Tennessee Titans vs. Buffalo Bills

It looked like a pretty tough matchup in Week 3, but the Titans’ defense allowed 23 points to the Philadelphia Eagles in an overtime game with four sacks of Carson Wentz. Over their last three games, the Titans have tallied 11 sacks while allowing just over 15 points per game.

The Buffalo Bills came back down to earth in Week 4, as they were shut out by the Green Bay Packers and Josh Allen was sacked seven times with two interceptions. Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings looks like an aberration, and Allen was sacked (a season-low) three times in that game too. Only the Vikings haven’t finished as a top-10 fantasy defense for the week against the Bills so far this year.

The Titans should have no trouble keeping the Bills’ offense in check on Sunday. They have a solid floor to bank on, with substantial upside
