Fantasy Football Week 8 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before I unveil my Week 8 quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy streamers, let’s review Week 7 (Yahoo! (PPR) scoring).

Quarterback-Eli Manning: 20.66 points
Tight End-C.J. Uzomah: 9.3 points
Team Defense-Buffalo Bills: -2 points

Now here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for Week 8, with the Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans on bye.

Quarterback: Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears vs. New York Jets

Trubisky has been on a nice run, with over 300 passing yards, multiple passing touchdowns and over 45 rushing yards in three straight games. He didn’t look quite as good in Week 7 against the New England Patriots, completing just over half of his passes (26 of 50) with a 50-plus yard Hail Mary at the end of the game to inflate his yardage, but Trubisky has been a top-five fantasy quarterback in each of those three weeks and he’s in a good spot for Week 8.

The New York Jets have allowed multiple passing touchdowns in four straight games, as injuries have thinned their secondary depth. They allowed over 300 yards through the air in the first three, and windy conditions at MetLife Stadium last week helped prevent Kirk Cousins from making it all four.

It’s unrealistic to expect Trubisky to make it four games in a row as a top-five fantasy signal caller. But he’s in a favorable spot, and if you’re without Matt Ryan or Philip Rivers this week it’s worth checking on his availability as you look for an option.

Others To Consider: Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers; Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens at Carolina Panthers; Alex Smith, Washington Redskins at New York Giants; Case Keenum, Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs; Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders vs. Indianapolis Colts; Sam Darnold, New York Jets at Chicago Bears

Tight End: Ben Watson, New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings

Watson set his season-high for catches (six), tied his season-high for targets (six) and scored his first touchdown of the season in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. He’s been a reliably low-end option thus far, with at least three catches in five of six games and at least seven PPR points four times.

The Minnesota Vikings have struggled to cover tight ends this season, allowing the seventh-most fantasy points (ESPN PPR scoring) to the position. They’ve allowed 23 catches to the position over their last three games, with a touchdown allowed in two of those games, and Jets’ tight end Chris Herndon scored on them in Week 7.

Watson should find some room to operate on Sunday night against the Vikings, in a game that’s in line to be high-scoring with plenty of fantasy wealth to go around. On a thin tight end landscape, Watson should not be forgotten in Week 8.

Others To Consider: C.J. Uzomah, Cincinnati Bengals at Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns; Ricky Seals-Jones, Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers

Team Defense: New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills (Monday night)

The Patriots allowed 31 points to the Chicago Bears in Week 7, but two sacks, two interceptions and a touchdown off a blocked punt gave them 19 fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring). They’ve not been stingy allowing points, but they have multiple takeaways in five straight games and their matchup is as good as it gets in Week 8.

Derek Anderson stepped in under center for an injured Josh Allen in Week 7, and delivered the expected results (four turnovers-three interceptions, three offensive points) against the Indianapolis Colts. Running back LeSean McCoy also left that game with an apparent concussion, so he’s highly questionable for Week 8 even with an extra day to get right for a Monday night game.

It was a formality, but Anderson will start next Monday night for the Bills. That puts the Patriots defense on a nice outing, with a high floor and unrivaled upside as a streaming defense for Week 8.
