Pitcher Lock
Charlie Morton (TAM) $9,200 @ TOR
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Charlie Morton is going to be my lock for Sunday. Morton gets a friendly matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, and he has been averaging 38.33 fantasy points per game. He has done that while facing the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies, and he hasn’t had under six strikeouts yet this year. Many people will look to Max Scherzer who has a decent matchup, but has also given up seven runs and has a strong wind blowing out. Jose Berrios is an honorable mention who likely will put up similar numbers to Morton but he costs $800 more. If you want value then you should take a chance on Jakob Junis who has struggled so far this year but has a great matchup against Cleveland and has been able to strike out 20 hitters so far. At the end of the day I prefer the non-weather influence of Morton playing in a dome and feel more comfortable with his price than the top three guys who have major questions to be answered.
Infielder Lock
(3B) Anthony Rendon (WAS) $4,500 vs PIT
Washington Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon is becoming a staple of this article. He actually has a bit of a price reduction for today which makes it easier to own him. His ownership will probably be pretty high but I don’t mind owning him. He has a great chance of hitting another home run due to some moderately strong wind blowing out to the power alley. Jameson Taillon is a pretty good pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates but he has only struck out 13 batters in three games. I like the chances of Rendon getting five at-bats in this game and adding a few doubles. He currently has seven doubles and six home runs. His fantasy production has been high and also consistent.
Infielder Value
(SS) Willy Adames (TAM) $2,400 @ TOR
Willy Adames has quietly been benefiting from some great play by the Tampa Bay Rays offense. He now has seven straight games with a hit. He has scored over 20 fantasy points in three of his last five contests. Marcus Stroman has pitched better for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, but his starts were against Detroit, Baltimore and Cleveland. I look for the Rays to be able to get a crooked number on the board early in this one.
Outfielder Lock
Austin Meadows (TAM) $4,000 @ TOR
Austin Meadows is going to be a key piece in my stack of Tampa players. He’s hitting .385 this season with six home runs and 16 RBI. Meadows is in a great spot for production with Tommy Pham also playing well, and for $100 could be a good substitution or complement. Meadows is averaging 17.19 fantasy points per game this year. A few top options such as Mike Trout and Whit Merrifield will have weather concerns. That’s why I like the mid-salary outfielders with higher upside today.
Outfielder Value
Austin Dean (MIA) $2,300 vs PHI
