Top 5 Reasons The Philadelphia Eagles Will Still Make The NFL Playoffs This Year
5: The Philadelphia Eagles still have a talented offense. They have a good Oline that just hasn’t quite gelled yet, but should soon. They have two Pro-Bowl WRs In Desean Jackson and Alson Jeffery a good when he wants to be slot WR in Nelson Aghlolor, three good backs in Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott. Jackson is the team’s best weapon on offense. He is unfortunately currently injured. (More on Jackson in a bit.) Alshon Jeffry despite a strong start hasnt quite hit his groove so far this season but I believe he will. The more he and Eagles star QB Carson Wentz work on their timing the better it will get. It’s already better than last year. I expect Nelly to play better going forward. The team needs him to until Djax can return.
4: The Eagles have an excellent run defense. Despite their struggles against the pass The Philadelphia Eagles still have a top 3 defense against the run. They’ve allowed only one hundred yard rusher all season long. Even after a whole slew of injuries this season the DLine plays the run very well.
3: The Philadelphia Eagles will make a trade for a CB before the deadline and maybe a good backup DE that can rotate in and make plays before the trade deadline is over. Call this a gut feeling. I think there’s zero chance Eagles GM Howie Roseman stands pat at least at the CB position. Chris Harris Jr. From Denver could quite possibly be the CB they trade for. He or another CB like him would provide a huge lift for the defense. They will also trade for a DL to help bolster the pass rush or they’ll sign a good veteran backup DL off the street. Star DE Chris Long has recently said he’d be open to coming back and provide a lot more as a pass rusher than the backup caliber players like DE Josh Sweat that Jim Swartz has rotating in for starters DE Brandon Graham and DE Derrek Barnett.
Chris Long would immediately become the team’s no 3 DE. It would also be much smarter to bring Chris Long back than give up more draft capital especially considering the fact that The Eagles have only drafted 10 players in the last two years and will need to draft a higher volume of players for the future. The smart move would be to bring Chris Long back for another year. DE Chris Long has kept himself in shape for NFL football. Heck, I would even take Connor Barwin over the scrubs we currently have as our backups along the DL. It is certainly an understatement that the team has put too much faith in Josh Sweat and Vinny Curry.
2: RB Boston Scott will emerge as Darren Sproles 2.0 Boston Scott is averaging more yards per carrying than talented second-round pick Miles Sanders at the moment. He reminds me of a mixture of a young Darren Sproles and Brian Westbrook. The second-year RB has serious speed and explosiveness and can also catch passes. The Eagles could use some explosive plays at the moment on offense, and why not turn to Scott? He’s proven that at this point in their respective careers he is currently a lot better than RB Darren Sproles who’s quite frankly over the hill. He can break a run for a long TD, he can make explosive plays out of the backfield. Doug Pederson needs to find a way to incorporate this kid into the team’s regular offense and I think he will.
1: Future hall of fame WR Desean Jackson will return healthy soon and provide a huge lift to the offense. Desean Jackson when healthy is the best deep threat WR in the NFL even at 32 years of age. He’ll play till he’s 35, and still be the fastest WR in the NFL. He is without a doubt in my mind the best player the Eagles have on offense and been sorely missed for several weeks with an injury. The Eagles need a player or two on offense capable of stretching the field and scoring quickly. I believe those two-players are Desean Jackson
and less obviously RB Boston Scott. Jackson has a decent chance of suiting up against Buffalo. If not then he will certainly be ready to go in week 9 at home against the Bears. He is the most valuable player The Eagles have on quite possibly the entire team. Jackson and star Eagles QB have developed a great chemistry as was put on display in week one in a win over the Washington Redskins in which the two connected for 2 deep TDs of over 50 yards. That is 100 yards receiving in one game! No other WR in the game can change a football game with as little as 2 catches like Desean Jackson is capable of doing. When the Eagles get Jackson back they will go on a run. Let’s just hope that if he can’t play until week 9 that Coach Doug Pederson and the rest of the team pull out an upset victory against the Bills this Sunday. If Jackson’s ready to go for the Eagles week 8 matchup they could easily go from being the underdogs in this game to being favored. Thtas how good Djax is.
